I buy most of my replacement German car parts (for the past couple of years it's been VWs) from: europartsdirect.com, and autohausaz.com good selection of quality parts, and Free Shipping on orders over $50. My other choice was stopshopanddrive.co. But, they've gone to a flat $8 shipping charge, and have been bought up by another company, and I have not ordered from them recently, so I don't know how the buy up has affected them, or if it has at all.
Paragon Products, is good, as is Performance Products, but both of those companies charge for shipping and brake rotors are heavy. From the sounds of it, you're correct in thinking that the car has more than 50K miles on it.
I suggest that you spend the money for a Genuine Porsche Factory Service Manual. Not an illegal scanned computer copy. Many procedures on a 2.5L Porsche engine are unique to the engine, and some require special tools you won't use on any other car. There are good alternatives for some of the tools, and for others, there is no good substitute.
The glass for the mirrors can be confusing. It's the same for some earlier 911s, but there are two types of factory attachments, and aftermarket replacements that stick on or are glued on.
Most 924S and 944 that we see new 924board members buy have been abused and neglected by previous owners. For you, that means you gotta play catch up before the car will be reliable, and this is an expensive process.
The 2.5L engine is an interference engine, the most critical maintenance procedure on the car is the FOES (front of engine service). this needs to be completed every 3 years or 30K miles, or the engine is in danger of the timing or balance shaft belt breaking causing thousands of dollars of damage or in rare cases ruining the entire engine.
If you cannot positively identify when the FOES was last done on the car (written documentation), you need to stop running the engine, or driving the car until you complete it, or get it completed. FOES consists of: timing belt, balance shaft belt, front of engine oil seals, all ball bearing belt pulleys, and rollers, and the waterpump.
FOES costs $600-$1500, for parts, depending on where you buy the parts, the brand of the parts you buy, and whether you get a new or rebuilt waterpump. There are no good new generic waterpumps. Most all of the aftermarket new waterpump are made by the same company, and they are junk. The quality of rebuilts varies also (from like new to total junk). If you don't perform FOES yourself, expect the cost of parts and labor from a competent shop to run you $1200-$2500. |
