Ok.. so i have had this car for four years in storage... just statred working with it.
This car has sat since 2003 and i got it in 2006... 4 years later it starts still and runs.... but with some issues. Its puttering some... and doesnt feel like it has the power that it should.
I pulled the plugs out.. and the 1, 3 and 4 all had oil on them.. not alot but some oil... Head gasket? or somthing easier... cause i dont want it to smoke anymore.. it smokes some.. not alot.. just a little. The color of the smoke is bluish white... and occasionally black when on the throttle.
LOTS OF ISSUES.... and its... ONLY THE BEGGINING
The car was lived in by a mouse which is gone... so i had to rip out the entire intirior as well.. is smelled awful... Here are some shots
Interior shots before tear out
Here are a few shots of the seats:
Before:
After... I cleaned them and repaired them some.. not great but better
Here is the carpet
before
After
It is going to go back in storage because i have to overseas for military and will be gone for a year.
The exhaust just got repaired some.. i have new door cards coming from a 944 so i will have to convert the window switches..
AND THERES MORE...
The wiring to some things have been cut and need to be rewired... ALL THE GHETTO wiring has been removed so far to non-existant items.
The wipers continuosly run.. so those are unplugged for now... switch im sure
the washer pump is bad... and a aftermarket was wired in to the battery with a switch on the inside.. that doesnt work either and is getting removed soon.
the passanger side cooling fan's wireing was cut by the belts... dont ask how.. so its been rewired already...
the car is a mess... but i want to get it back into running order so if any advice or direction to good sites for parts ALL OVER.. and anything else.. as well as advice from here.. i would be greatly appreciative
Sorry for any bad spelling or typos.. kind of typing fast since my son is running around trying to get away with murder.. LOL |

Thanks and please feel free to point out my lemon. LOL |

make sure you properly torque EVERY bolt when doing engine repair...
my clean 924s has been sidelined due to my haste... _________________ 17in caymans, koni yellow coilovers, hypercoil springs, kla solid upper mounts, 968 sway bars, kla drop links, kla strut brace, fidanza flywheel, dansk catback, wilwood front calipers, ss brake lines, e-codes, 944 duckbill, manual rack, momo steering wheel |

yeah i have had issues with that before myself... the engine will not be played with till i get back... ill probably get a new torq wrench then too.. i have had mine for a while and its probably not accurate anymore.
Any good places to pick up a new or used dashboard... The current one has some massive cracks in it and is not pretty to look at.... its covered with a cover right now that is crap |

Yeah recovered is looking like a better option... i have only found those cheap plastic covers and a few used dashes but they are not in great shape.... and a new one is pretty pricey.
Oh well not to worried... ill be back next may so ill have to pull it out then and take it to get recovered.... ill finish up the interior removal and cleanup though before i leave.
I have new door cards to put in and some work on the motor i want to get done.
Need to resolve my Running rich problem..... its not cool. |

good to see you have all the interior items i will need. I will defenetly be ordering stuff from your site then. It will not be until probably this time next year that i do order though.... leaving in a week for a year long deployment.
Ill probably be ordering stuff actually while im gone so its all here when i get back to give me something to do when i get back. LOL
Just need to work the kinks out of the fuel system still.... can not get the running rich under control yet. |

One option for the dash if you want the factory look is http://www.justdashes.com/
They will probably charge you about $1000 but their work is first rate and they are used by all the serious restorers. They can also redo your consoles etc if you send them in with your dash. But the cost might be more than you're willing to commit to.
For cleaning the carpet......I have two ways of doing this. If the carpet is plastic based like on newer cars, then just take it to the coin operated car wash and blast away until clean. Bring it home......hang it over the fence for a day until dry and it will be spotless.
More delicate carpet, I lay it down on a freshly rinsed piece of driveway and soak it with water from a garden hose, then a gentle scrub with a soft scrubbing brush and some dishwashing soap mixed with water. Once it is clean......rinse with the garden hose and hang over the fence until dry. _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)

the carpet was not salvageable...
It was pretty stained and smelled something fierce. I pulled it all out, all the padding and everything and threw it in a dumpster... its gone and trust me.. it was done. |

the wiper issue could be a grounding issue i had a similar problem on my 88s the motor is grounded through the 4 bolts that hold it to that metal plate, take them off clean them and clean the plate with a wire brush around where the bolts go, see if that solves the problem, in terms of the oil it could also be bad piston rings, in terms of the dash i have the same issue and have not decided what to do one though it had was to pull the whole thing and fiberglass it, since it is sort of foam core it was be prime for a layer of glass, then some painting, and with that you can even go custom mods if you wanted to install more gauges for some thing, etc. for the washer pump, make sure its the pump i though my pump was bad for a long time, turned out to be clogged hoses, dcauto.com and pelicanparts had reasonable deals on parts
hope this helps

yeah im worried its a piston ring issue... but im noticing that the smoke im seeing is more geared to running really rich.
I have been keeping a close eye on my oil levels and can not see it dropping at all. Im assuming this is a good indicator that im not burning oil like i thought i was.
I do know the fuel issues is gettin crazy... as it warms up it burns more and more fuel.
Sound like an o2 sensor to anyone else? |
