2.5 is a pretty tough engine. They dont just blow up at 6000 rpm for "freak" reasons.

+1.... suspect mechanical over-rev. Other piston had been "kissed".

he said in the forum that he runs it at its red line quite often..... not really a good idea i would think

Also if you hear a change in noise... like a buzz... probably a spun bearing.... that would defanetly lead to failure..

I have never seen a block blow that bad... and i have blown a few motors too

I've seen some engine destroyed the same way (and even worse). That's what they look like when hydrolocked running at high speed.

The one that was in my 87 924S when I bought it looks similar. You can't tell from the photos, but the oil pan and lower griddle are damaged in a similar manner.
