|
|
Just wanted to check if anyone has tried to fit large 996 wheels on a narrowbody 931…
I would need to remove the original wheels in order to refurbish them before installing new tyres on them.
I am wandering whether I could use my 996 wheels as "standing wheels" in the mean time, no need to drive the 931 with them.
So my question is will the following wheels fit into a narrow body car in case I remove the back spacers? ... any tricks on removing the spacers?
Front: 8,5x18 ET around 50 with 225 wide wheels.
Rear: 10x18 ET around 50 with 265 wide wheels.
Alternatively I could use my 996 winter wheels …
Front: 7x17 ET around 50 with 205 wide wheels.
Rear: 8,5x17 ET around 50 with 225 wide wheels
Thanks! _________________ 931 S2, 1981 |

If you have standard 6Jx15 ET53 wheels on the 931, the 7Jx17 wheels you listed will have 10mm less clearance on the inside and will stick out 16mm more. The 8.5Jx17 will have 29mm less inside clearance and will stick out 35mm more.
Figures obtained from http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
I think the 17's would work, particularly as "standing" wheels. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thanks Dan!
Yes, I have the standard 6x15 wheels.
So the 17's might work, but the 18's are too wide... _________________ 931 S2, 1981 |

Those 17s should fit just fine. I'm running 8.5 or 9" in the back of my 931 with 255s. I had to pull the fenders a bit but that's because I Autocross with those last year. You shouldn't need to do that if they are just for sitting. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Hope the weather starts to warm up, so I could change to summer tyres on the 996 and use the 17" winter wheels for standing _________________ 931 S2, 1981 |

Flosho, what are the offsets on those, and what spacers are you using? I'm investigating whether 7Jx16 / 9Jx16 ET60 Club Sports can be squeezed onto a narrow body 924... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

If you want some track worthy camber it will need a fair ammount of spacing. i tried 928 7x16 flat dish wheels and it were not even close.. At least at the front. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

What I'd like to do is use Club Sports for street duty / looks, and swap over to 6Jx16 trash cans for dry track and 6Jx15 spiderwebs for wet track...
...might require adjustable camber plates up front, but that's a small detail at this point... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I'll have to check the offsets, but I have the stock spacers on.. Just bolted these on and rolled the rear fenders a bit. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

I think the "sliver rose" AKA clubsports are 65mm for the fronts and 60mm for the rears. Its been a few years now but the set I used to run on my 931 had 928 part numbers, I think it was the fronts (which would make sense) the other pair carried 951 numbers 9" ET60. Either way, I opted to use 968 struts/springs to avoid spacer woes while keeping a safe fender to wheel clearance. These forged rims also featured on the 928GT so watch out for offsets! |

Dave, thanks for chiming in, was hoping to hear from you, as I did dig up a post or two from the ancient past...Actually, it's ironic you mention the 968 strut setup, because I have a line on a complete 968 brake + spindle + hub package intended for this car. So it sounds like the CS wheels could work. Thanks for the tip on the front ET. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Ah, now I get it. I couldn't figure how you got 255s on that thing, but now I see from the photo you actually "reshaped" your fenders. _________________ Toofah King Bad

If you want, I know someone with a fender roller, they'd likely be willing to roll the fenders on Shaggy or Red for some beer and maybe some wings. _________________ Stefan
