I still believe that for an every day US street-driven all-purpose 931, that a small liquid to air intercooler is the best bang for the buck. As I've noted elsewhere, I believe a setup can be done for $1000 or less, and I'm planning to add such a setup to the 941 perhaps as early as this spring or summer.

I think that you are right. I bought a Garrett heatexchangecore (Lightning), a Bosch pump (Cobra) and finaly a Garrett IC (Syclone) for $400. The individual parts are designed for at least 300hp stock. The IC doesn´t fit under the hood, but under the GT-scoop with some clearance.

Nice setup and in a CGT replica it would seem a better solution than the Holbert style setup. Still can these be made to mimic exactly the stock charge tube fitment dimensions without to high a cost?

I think so. What I'm contemplating is flattening a short tube that will connect to the TB and the IC outlet. so that it will fit over the valve cover.

One thing to bear in mind is that L2A cores do not need to be nearly as large as A2A for the same sized application. So it may be possible to go with an even smaller core. I need to get home and play around with some positioning to see if the flattened tube idea will really work.

That intercooler size seems similar to:
WRX, RX7 turbo, or stock Skyline R33 style,
I'm pretty sure the R33 cooler even has its in /outlet pipes facing the right way,
It wouldn't be hard to retro fit one of these readily available coolers,
Using readily available silicone tubing, and/or intercooler piping.

Larger coolers are also cheap, from auto accesories stores.

I had a 600x300x600mm front mount, that got stolen before I got to turbo my last car. It cost between $200-$300AU new.

It looks like there is some room there for a larger cooler,
top mount, but it would require a little more piping,
Still way less than a front mount.
There is a heaps of room on the other side and I reckon you could just about fit a 600x300x75mm cooler on the intake side of the engine,
or crossing over from near the turbo outlet.
Even with its own thermo fan for when there is limited airflow.
