Just paid a visit to my favorite local adult beverage market and picked up a new batch of India Pale Ales. Yum!
Beer brewing has come a long way here in the States since the Micro Brewery Boom when frankly most of the brews were dodgy at best. Not that many years ago you couldn't find a good hoppy IPA if your life depended on it. Now you can walk in and purchase any number of well crafted concoctions from all over the US and abroad.
I am fortunate, living in Colorado, to be within 30 minutes drive of WELL over a dozen micro and craft brewers; all making some excellent beers. I try to sample them all! My tastes range from stouts to pales with my favorite group being IPA's .
I'm also kind of a red wine nut; what do you guys like? (Those of you that are of legal drinking age, of course.)
Some of my regulars:
Mojo IPA Boulder Beer Co., Boulder, CO
Odell's IPA Odell Brewing, Ft. Collins, CO
Compass IPA Bristol Brewing Co., Colorado Springs, CO
Green Flash IPA Green Flash Brewing Co., San Diego, CA
Stone IPA & Ruination Stone Brewing, Escondido, CA
CHEERS!!!, Brian

Had a good IPA at the Diamond Knot Brewery in Mukilteo, WA. Cool place. They have these half-gallon, clay (looking?), cork-stoppered jugs that you can bring in and have refilled. Kinda neat.
Here in Vancouver, seems most people won't touch Canadian beer, even though it's always touted as the best (aren't they all, I s'pose). I don't mind it in general but I'm partial to a Becks myself. That and single malt scotch whiskey... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I often get a hankerin' for it. Had more than a few when I was home a few months back. But I don't delude myself that it's the best beer around.
You can actually get VB here. No XXXX, though _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

+1 dogfish head 120 Excellent indeed! Highly alcoholic. I've had the 60 and 90 as well.
I'm just trying a new IPA made by Ska Brewing in Durango CO right now. It has a great name, "modus hoperandi". Not bad at all, though nothing like DFH 120.

Victory brewing, if I remember correctly. They make some decent beers. I like just a bit more hop "bite", but I certainly wouldn't pass one up!

| Yep, Victory is the Brewer. You need more "bite" than Hop Devil? Yeesh. That stuff is so hoppy it will curl the hair on the back of your dog's neck. |

I'm no beer aficionado, but we got a growler of Barber Shop IPA from our local micro brew, Liberty Street Brewing Company, for our New Years Eve Eve get together. Seemed to go over well. We also got a growler of their Punkin' Ale, which believe it or not, was quite tasty, not overdone at all. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Imperial Stout from nashoba winery is one of the best and blackest beers i've had since Guiness put out their anniversary edition a few months back.
my brother in law bought a sampleing pack from them for my father in law for christmas. luckily he doesnt like stouts! _________________ "Kraut cars, they know how to build 'em".

Definitely a bonus for you. Good beer at a good price!
New Belgium in Fort Collins, CO makes a nice black ale called 1554 that I like. Not as creamy as a good Imperial Stout but tasty just the same.

Always a fan of Arrogant Bastard... had some on tap the other day!
Hoppy always goes over well in our race shop; fortunately in SE MI and OH, we've got plenty of excellent breweries. There's the big commercial ones, like Bell's, Great Lakes, and some slightly smaller ones like Founders, Acadia, and New Haven IIRC, then there's the small local places, Dragonmead being the best in town. They've always got an awesome selection, and when they bring out their Tripple Absolution trappist, it's a rare treat - especially aged in casks as they sometimes do!
It's also one of a couple places in town that serve proper Real Ale, from the cellar on a hand-pull taps. Berkley Front is the other, but it's a beer garden, not a brewery.
I also had some excellent stuff this past summer from Williamsburg Ale - very nicely hoppy stuff, and they had a limited-edition bourbon aged porter which was to die for. I do occasionally get on a porters and stouts kick!
I'm also rather a fan of Wychwood, from the UK - Hobgoblin is lovely stuff!!
I'm definitely a major beer snob... _________________ Vaughan Scott

I figured that anyone who had the Humulus lupulus flower painted on their track car (or was it on the helmet) must enjoy a good hoppy beer. Is that hop cone still there?
Here is a little beer tour of my area's breweries. All of these are primarily beer producing entities, though a couple started as restaurant/brewpubs serving micro-brewed beer with their food and continue to operate those establishments. All have distribution to stores at least throughout CO and a number of them into many states across the US.
All of these are well within 30 min. of my house, except for a couple in downtown Boulder which are maybe 40 min. away by the speed limit. I am not counting any of the numerous restaurant/brewpub/sports bar style brewers around here because that would make the list way too long. I'm not including anything in Denver, by far our largest metropolitan center, which is a little over an hour away.
I like knocking around brewer's websites, here you go:
New Belgium, Ft. Collins, CO - You may seen Fat Tire Ale around, that"s their most marketed beer. They are the #3 craft brewer in the US behind Boston Beer Co. (Samuel Adams) & Sierra Nevada. Overall this makes them the #8 beer producing company (by volume) in the US, even counting all the mega-brewers.
Odell Brewing Co. Ft. Collins, CO - Their 90 Shilling and IPA are great!
Fort Collins Brewery Ft. Collins, CO - Tasty IPA
Oskar Blues Brewery Longmont/Lyons CO - Dale's Pale Ale - Good hoppy beer... distributed in CANS not bottles.
Left Hand Brewing Co. Longmont, CO - Sawtooth ale is very good - could have a little more hop character
Twisted Pine Brewery Boulder, CO - Solid beers
Boulder Beer Co. Boulder, CO - Mojo IPA & Mojo Risin' Double IPA - Yummy!
Avery Brewing Co. Boulder, CO - Good Beer - IPA & Maharaja Double IPA are excellent!
Estes Park Brewery - Wasn't a huge fan of their beers but they are progressing quite nicely.
Rock Bottom Brewery - I broke the rule here, they are a restaurant/sports bar and don't distribute their beer outside of their restaurants. But... their beers are well crafted and the volume of beer they produce yearly puts them solidly in the top 50 breweries in the US. And it's one of my favorite places!
Anheuser-Busch Ft. Collins, CO - Okay, I included one mega-brewer even though I don't drink much of their product. They are so close, I couldn't leave them off.
Cheers, Brian (fellow beer snob) |

i pick up most of my beers in germany when im working, in the duty free.
some great real ales available in most offies (off licence) though include Witches Tit, Bishops Finger and Goblin.
im a huge red wine fan, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Faustino I and Marquis de Riscal reserva are all big favs of mine.
to be honest its all a matter of mood... if im out with the lads just to get drunk and let girls touch me in my special place then id drink windex and red bull or just plain typhoid water as long as it was alcoholic!!!!! |
