why butcher a 944 for the sake of putting 5 lug hubs on a 924. If you are that keen on 5 lug wheels, sell the 924 and drive a 944 _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

OK, you've caught me in my own web of lies I do think the 44 looks way better with the wider stance, etc.
My fear would be the expense of engine failure, etc. I like the front fenders with the gt add on rears.
Been seeing alot off 44's around here for under $1000, most not running, body in good shape.
I guess for the price of a decent 44, why not go ahead and get a 928 fixer upper? _________________ I got nothin'

Because, some of us like the narrow body better, and there are plenty of dead 944s sitting around from which to scavenge. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

^And what he said.
I will also admit I like the way it is now, except for the rear wheel stance. _________________ I got nothin'

Same reason some of us (ahem!) put 911 heated seats in our cars... because we have the desire to do so. Not every choice we make is sensible from every angle... nor does it have to be!

I have my 24 nosed up to a 44 I hauled home today... The 44 was damaged in the front. Some parts have been robbed, But the suspension is intact and damage free. I think the world can part with a beat up 44 to build a better 24.
I haven't compared much yet... But it looks like alot of parts cross???
I'm excited to rip into it soon. _________________ 81 Porsche 924

absolutly not they wont be long enough for safe operation.
4 bolt drum brakes are tricky, if you use too long of a bolt it will lock up the wheel and too short and you run the risk of the wheel falling off.
and when you widen the rear track it will understeer more |
I was talking about the 35mm bolts.
If the 25mm bolts are the right bolts for the standard 8 spoke rims...
Why the 35mm bolts are not the right bolts for the standars 8 spoke rims + 10mm spacer??
I can't even fit a 10mm spacer at the rear??? |
oh sorry i thought you were saying to use the spacer with the 25mm bolts
i saw a 924 with 44 fenders and narrow rear, the fender to tire spacing was even _________________ "Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves. "

Thank you Dan... I had already found that thread and read it. It is a 84 944, steel arms and a port for the speedo. I am definitly doing the 5 lug swap, My brakes really suck partly to do with one of the rear hardlines is sheared into and a pair of visegrips crimping the flow off just before. So I am hoping brake lines match up.
But it looks like bumpers, tail light lenses, interior parts, glass, could all transfer; and the list grows the more I look. It sure looks like doors could transfer.
I just want to make sure I get everyting I might want or need pulled and put aside before I start selling parts. Then again there may not be anyparts left... I am headed to go look at a 44 with a cracked block... It may be the recipient of the 44 motor in the parts car, and the rest of the 44 parts will then be stored. _________________ 81 Porsche 924

Yes, there's a ton of commonality with the really early 944s. On the five lug, make sure you don't hack the handbrake cable. The five lug setup is completely different than the four lug, so you'll want to retrieve it intact. It is a real PITA to remove, but worth it...finding the correct parts after the fact is even harder because most dismantlers just hack them off. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I bought the 84 944 with a cracked block, And more spare parts. I think I will be able to make 2 good cars out of the 3. The guy also had a tool kit and a haynes manual that was included.
I also was offered a free '66 ford f-200... Hopefully I can find some cheap storage. _________________ 81 Porsche 924

Have you taken a look here:
http://www.sportwagen-eckert.de/docs/dist_tbl.htm
They are specifically for the 924.
Maybe send them an email? _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

Let me know what comes out please?
The shop I used to bring my 924 to had a loan-924, restored by the shop owner. This car had 25 mm spacers at the rear, but I do not know where he got the spacers. I also have been told by others that it was a Porsche option to have spacers with the spiderwebs. _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

Yes, but only on the 5-lug, as noted earlier in this thread and in the Tech Section. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
