Ha! Sounds like me when I accidentally bought my 924...

Make her a nice cup, or something Rich - that'll cheer her up... hopefully...

Thing is I bought it when she wasn't here so it's her own fault for not supervising me properly...

It's a Drummond M-type 3.5"x16" with a load of tooling and stuff I don't understand - Just need to repair the reversing switch and then wire it all up

Excited!

I love my lathe. I make things from wood and aluminum all of the time and sell them on Ebay too. I make MAF's for Mazdaspeed 3/6 for instance... paid for itself in less than a month and it's sending us to Vegas again with the latest earnings from it. Good lathe, good lathe.

Pre War Machine tool? I amuse you have a single phase motor bolted to it. Or are you stuck with 3 phase? If its the sort I'm thinking of these were designed to be belt driven by overhead shaft systems in machine shops. When operated as a stand-alone people sometimes fit dedicated motor systems above so to keep the Machine tool as original speck.

I just don't get some women. Turning is fun...and women make the best turners.

Does it have a lead screw for thread cutting and auto feed? Do you have a 4 jaw chuck? Chuck!

Pretty sure the issue was not with the specifics of the purchase, more the breach of fiduciary duty on Rich's part...

Cool Rich.
A much better accident than crapping your pants.

If it is a war vintage machine with babbitt bearings etc, it will be virtually impossible to do any accurate turning unless its been rebuilt and had the slack in all the slides and screws fixed. Be fine for non critical jobs though. Enjoy.

hmmm... thats what i don't get, lathes are industrious. She should be happy as its a sure investment even though inadvertent . Could have been a lot worse if he had bought beer, a pool table or something dumb like that. Rich, buy her a sawing machine, she could turn things up while you turn things out

i would just love to have all that stuff.

A nice Mark II Colchester Student, a Bridgeport, a Cincinnati miller, a large radial drill, a shaping machine, surface grinder, concentric grinder, a pedestal grinder, a marking out table, a bandsaw, a power hacksaw, a fly press, an 8ft guillotine, a bending machine, some rollers, MIG, TIG, & Oxy ethylene Cutter/welders, Plasma Cutter, stick welder, spot welder and a heap of tooling, a heated workshop, spray booth, compressor, shot blast cabinet, loads of air tools (nibblers, cut off saw, reciprocating saw, staple gun, windy drill), sewing machine, bar stock, sheet metal stock, angle and square section stock, fabric/leatherette stock, a lift, a pit, tyer press, wheel balancer, laser wheel alignment kit, space to drive in and out cars... an office..... and i would be happy for a bit.

I would probably build custom bikes and not bother with cars, but i would sure have my working life sussed.

but then there is the social side of life, stuff like, jewelery, dresses, makeup, handbags, tops, jeans and don't forget shoes,..perfume, hair , nails....etc, ect... cars and motorbikes, quads, RVs, SUVs, jet ski, a 24ft RIB with twin 200hp outboards, diving equipment, trailer...

I could continue with the house.... but i don't want to frighten any prospective husbands (with deep pockets) off!

So Rich, quit your moaning, you wouldn't want to be marred to me, you wound be bankrupt for sure.

Everyone needs a BIG shed with lots of tools and stuff or at least access to one. I remember many years ago when everyone took responsibility for the stupid things they did and not try to sue each other there where places like this around where you could go. A half dozen mates went down and paid a rental fee for the use of the tools that you wouldnt normally have, had there own little corner and just played together nicely in the "big sandpit".

@ you lot

She has a sewing machine and is getting better at sewing, she makes her own dresses for weddings and so on. I'm thinking she might fancy fixing the Porkers seats...

Yes it's a babbit bearing machine but all the slack has been taken out by the previous owner the bearings are conical adjustable efforts. No slack in anything I can find. Only bit of wear is the lead screw half nut, it's a bit worn but I have a plan.... I still need to fix the reverse switch (Springs arrived but they are too weak )

It has the worlds largest single phase 1/2 horsepower motor and a proper Drummond counter shaft and motor mount - it's just arranged in a slightly non-standard way to save a bit of space.

It has a lead screw and loads of change wheels, it's missing one from the set but I have possibly found one. Lead screw nut is a bit worn but it'll still feed accurately enough.

It has 3 and 4 jaw chucks too.
