Ok, I feel like a total noob here that I cant find a filter for my car.
I went to the Auto parts store, and asked for a fuel filter for a 1977 Porsche 924. They gave me one that looked correct, compared to the existing one (It was a Purolator F50155). The inlet line fit, but not the line going to the umm.. "fuel dizzy" (I think thats what you guys call it). The size for the output is too small on the filter itself.

Back to the parts store, asked for another (maybe wrong box? who knows..). opened up at the store, and sure enough, same thing. Two different sizes for inlet/outlet. Realizing there is a such thing as a 77.5, I asked them to look up the filter for a 1976 924. They said there is no such thing (well at least not on their computer).

Back to forum searches. I see someone said early model 924s use the WIX 33016. Then I believe by "early" they meant around 1980. Looked online for the WIX. Says its for a VW "Dasher", but I am unable to see if the inlet/outlet is the same size.

Next, I tried looking for a 1976 fuel filter, guessing maybe thats the same, but that one is a Wix WF8037. Still unable to find sizing on that one for inlet/outlet.

The car is a 1977 M&R 924 NA. The old filter has nothing but an arrow on it. When I found out the new filter wouldnt work, I has to put the old one back on. Before doing that, I blew it out with my air compressor (from the outlet side). Alot of brown stuff came flying out the inlet, which means I was on the right track.

After putting it back in, the car ran fine... for a week, then slowly started acting up again. The symtoms seem like fuel or ignition (already replaced plugs/wires/cap/rotor). Idles ok, reves up ok when sitting (unless I punch it quick, then it studders and doesnt smooth out). If I try to take off too fast, engine bogs down as if its not running on all cyls. I have to kind of "baby" the RPMs up, and choose my shiftpoint carefully. cant go above 4,000 RPMs while moving.

So seeing as the problem went away after blowing out the fuel filter, I could probably just do that again, but I'd imagine it really needs to be replaced.

So, anyone have a part number, or cross reference, and KNOWS it'll fit this particular car (assuming the PO didnt mess with anything)?. The fuel lines have the metal braiding on them, if thats any sort of clue.

I have a M/R and the filter that fits my car is a Bosch 0 450 905 021. Try AutohauzAZ.com. They will list three filters for comparison the one listed above is 71020. Just a note, I do have to use the fittings that were on the filter that came with the car when I picked it up a couple of years ago. The filter mentioned above doesn't come with fittings. Hope this helps some.

On my fuel filter i had to take a pair of vice grips and take the fitting off of the OLD filter, take the new fitment off the new filter, and put the old one in it's place to make it fit right.

Yeah, what he said and make sure you use new crush washers and keep an eye out for leaks around the filter as you try to start the vehicle back up.

Yeah I've had that problem too. I had to special order one with the fittings on it. A little annoying, but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. That's one thing that annoys me about chain parts stores. It seems they don't specify between the 924S and 924 and other stuff like that.

Thanks guys!... I ended up ordering Bosch 0 450 905 021/aka 71020 from rockland, so $13.50 total, shipped 2-3 days. RA didnt show what car it fits, but other sites show it as being for a 1979 Volvo 244.

I had to take the fittings off the old filter when I tried the other new filter (That had the wrong size output)... yea, they don't come off too easily. Is there any sort of glue/threadlock/sealer to be used on the threads other than just the copper washers?

Once I get and install, hopefully I'll remember to post back to this thread for all the future searchers...

Earlier and later type have different connections for the hoses and adaptors are required.
If the wrong one is purchased and you are lucky the old filter has the adaptors and it is just a matter of swapping them over.
You may need crush washers if they are not supplied.

Still on the hunt I looked at a few suppliers and located a bosch filter 71021 at www.autohausaz.com/index.HTML
It already comes with adaptors and for the price I bought 2.

Not only are the filters different, the adaptors are too.

Checking stock of filters in RC`s parts store confirms early ones (with adaptors included) have a M14x1.5 F outlet and are #71007, 0 450 905 003. Later model filters are #71020, 0 450 905 021. These have a M12x1.5 F outlet and come with no adaptors, hence the cheaper price.

Just got the new fuel filter (71020) also known as "0 450 905 021", and its the wrong one for my car. Its got the same problem as the Purolator F50155. The inlet and outlet are two different sizes. I need a filter that has the same size for both (the bigger size), or a different coupler for the outlet.

So I'm guessing I need the 71007 that RC mentioned, as that has the M14 outlet.

So it appears the 71020 is indeed for the 1977.5 thru 1980, and the 71007 is for the 76 and early 77. I wonder if I can find adaptors, or a hose (with adaptor) that goes from the dizzy to the filter. Then I'll have an extra filter. Otherwise, another $15 to get the correct one.

Edit: Just installed the Bosch 71007 fuel filter yesterday. It fits!! FINALLY! I can now accelerate at a decent speed, and even climb hills!

I think I have the same problem for the 76 build year myself this week. I called O'Reilly's and gave them the 71007 number they say that it cross references to a 33016 Wix, but at the same time these are they guys who just sold me the wrong filter w/o asking the build date which happens I suppose. The wix filter was ordered, but i can only pray it works tomorrow.. I am thinking of just ordering the Bosch one cause I don't wanna deal with wrong parts anymore.

The F50155 is what came with the car, so when I did I tune up I assumed replacing the one that came with the car would suffice... New lesson with this car,.. never assume anything.
