I have a friend that is getting rid of a 944 turbo exhaust and I was wondering if any part of it is usable on my 924S. I know it is designed to accommodate the unique requirement of a turbo, but was just wondering because he is in a "give-it-away" mood. I need a catalytic converter, but don't think the one off the turbo will work (Bosal does not list a part number for a cat for turbo cars).

TIA

Replacement exhaust for a 88 924S, 944S, and 951 is the same part.

I think the connection is different between the 87 and 88 924S, at the rear of the cat to the catback exhaust.

You should be able to adapt it, but I would go the expense if the 951 catback is not in good condition.

I have a complete stock exhaust from a 87 924S. If you are close enough to Milwaukee to pick it up, I will sell it cheap.

Thanks gohim. I'll have to give the exhaust a thorough looking over to check its condition.

Thanks for the offer, Paul, but I live in Alabama. However, I was in WI back in mid July. The weather was nice (low humidity).

I think all turbo (931 and 951) catbacks used a 4-bolt flange, while 944's and 924S's used a three-bolt flange (the '88 3-bolt has a slightly larger bolt pattern than earlier ones, but it can be "modificated" to work). You'd have to cut off the flange on the cat pipe and weld one on from a turbo car. Not a big deal, but it's something to consider.

I actually swapped the flange on my car so I could use a 931 catback, but that was only because I had a nice catback and a 4-bolt flange left over from a 931 parts car.

Then I'm probably wrong, I just took a look through a couple of parts books and it seems like the products have changed since I last looked.

While they aren't listed anymore, it must have been the 944S, 931, and 951 that shared the same exhaust.

There was something about the 88 924S exhaust that is different, but now the books show them as being the same as the 86-87 924S. Could be a mistake, or the products may have been redesigned.

Yes, I think that's correct. My 931 catback appears to be identical to a 951 unit except for the hangers on the tailpipe of the 951.

The '88 924S (and the '88 944 as well) has a larger muffler than the earlier versions. It also has a small resonator just behind the mounting flange, and the bolt pattern of the flange itself is just different enough that you can't bolt one up to the other without some "customizing".
