I am in the process of replacing the head gasket on my 87 924S. I realize that I will be replacing a lot of gaskets before the job is through (intake,exhaust,etc.). My question is, Do I use any type of adheisive or coating on any of these gaskets? If so, what do you suggest? I would also appreciate any other tips you may have concerning this job.
Thanks

Nope... don't use anything. Just make sure that your surfaces are completely free of dirt and oil...

Note the 4 exhaust manifold gaskets may have 2 different sides. You place the metal side to the steel manifold side-metal to metal. The other side to the cylinder head.

Be careful of the intake manifold gaskets. Handle with care. One is different----take note.

The rear cam cork gasket. Get new locking washers for the bolts. Do not overtighten.

The head gasket. Follow the engine number torque sequence. If you have tall head "nuts" (BTW you have to buy new nuts) the sequence is 15 pounds touque--------------wait 30 minutes-------------90 degree --------------wait 30 minutes -----------------90 degrees. Do not rush the 30 minutes.

If the front cam seal is not leaking-think about doing it, many skip this step because it is a real rough job. If you do it, have a new cam bolt.

Thanks so much for the help. Looks like I will be ordering more nuts and bolts. Again, I appreciate the information.
