Frightening !! Too bad the govt thinks France, Britian and Canada give poor care with the systems in place for most of my life.

I pay $100 a month for my wife and I and it covers anything, any time , I never get a bill or have any idea how much it cost. I am free to choose my doctor, my hospital and my thereapist if required later.

If I'm unable to pay the $100, the govt will pay it for me.

What could be wrong with that ??

Have you ever been diagnosed with cancer? Try getting urgent care in Canada when you really need it. It might change your mind about how great the system is there. I have many friends and colleagues who commute from Canada (Windsor) to my place of employment. I personally know of several cases where cancer treatments were either denied or delayed in the Canadian system, and the patients paid for it out of their own pocket here in the US because they didn't want to wait for the government to make up (or change) their minds.

Neither system is perfect, that's for sure. There are advantages to both approaches. But giving the government the power to decide when and how treatment should be delivered is a Bad Idea.

My wife was last November and within 6 weeks was in surgery. She's fine now.

My baby sister was diagnosed 14 years ago as terminal. She's still getting treatment and still leads a relatively normal life at age 65. Wouldn't be the case with an HMO or Obamacare as described.

Personally I survived a genetic bone disease from childhood that had me in emergency with major broken bones 22 times. Luckily I outgrew it. But it would have ruined my parents financially. Our system works and works reasonably well. But it's a democracy and patients are free to travel if they want to leave.

When I needed a hip replacement the best place was Bankok. Bumrungrad Hospital which is world renowned for it's treatment of foriegn patients only charged $15000 US for everything including air fare to Bankok.
But I got it done quickly here and paid zero !

No matter where you look, you'll find people who make other choices as they are free to do .

I pay $54/month (which, as I understand it, is the standard charge for the health care system here). I've only had to go to emergency here once (and it was own stupid fault). Ended up needing five stitches in a cut on my finger. Pretty minor, I know, but I was impressed by how smoothly everything went. Just wandered in, flashed my healthcare card, doc came 'round about an hour later and stitched me up (I was walking wounded, so there was no rush). Bastard did such a good job on the stitches it didn't even leave a scar! I was looking forward to the scar!

I guess I'd been here about two-and-a-half years, so arguably that stitch-up (pardon the pun) cost me about sixteen-hundred bucks. But it was pretty nice to not have to worry about it...

Other than "The Media", have only heard good things about the health care system here.

As you all know, I hate the idea of adding new "sub-forums" to 924Board. However, I really think we need an OT sub-forum if the usual suspects continue to use the general forum as a political soap box.

Here are some "OT" titles that I feel are appropriate for the general forum:

OT: Check out this Mustang!
OT: Check out this Holden!
OT: Check out this Vauxhall!

I don't want to scan the 924Board and see a US president's name in the title unless he just bought a 924.

Stick all this partisan garbage in an OT forum so I can just ignore it.
