| I recently changed the cam belt and intended to change the alternator belt at the same time, but i couldn't manage to stretch it to fit on all the wheels. Is there a way to adjust one of the wheels or is the new belt to short? |

well I don't remember exactly how it looks but it is pretty standard alt setup - you can loosen a bolt somewhere on the underside of the alt to loosen+tighten.
When I got a new belt it was too tight for me to fit, even in the 'loosest' position of the alt. I had to remove the water pump pulley, fit the belt and then - with the belt mounted on the removed pulley - press the pulley back in. Not elegant, but works. _________________ 1980 924NA ROW |

It's fairly easy to remove the alternator... one bolt on top and one on the bottom and you should be able to move it enough to get the new belt on. _________________ - Brendan

The point is, it's usually difficult to get the belt on or off simply by relieving the tension. On my cars, I have to remove both bolts and angle the alternator just a tad to slip the belt over, then reposition it and reattach the bolts. PITA, but once you've done it a time or two it's not so bad. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| I remove the water pump pulley, place the belt over the wp pulley and the alt (and the main), replace the WP pulley, then the bolts back in the water pump pulley, tightening the best I can (the pulley wants to spin w/no belt tension...). Then I tension the belt w/the aforementioned adjustor bolt on the alt bracket, then torque the wp pulley bolts... |
