Hi All. I bought an 87 from a guy ion non running condition for 500 bucks. It would crank but never fully fire.

To fix it I tried:
*Ref sensor replacement
*Hooked up all vacuum line that were off.
*put on new cap and rotor and coil.
*tested MAF and idle air controler
*tested all the injectors
*replaced ignition switch that was cracked

The problem ended up being the intake manifold was not secured onto the head. It was stuck on a vacuum line or something and sucking in tons of extra air. Once I installed it correctly it fired up and ran.

This brought me to the next problem. The car would sometimes not start and other times would start then die after running a bit.

To fix this
*I replaced the check valve
*repaired the line off the fuel pressure damper
*swapped out my fuel pressure reg with a used one I got on ebay with *some other parts
*replaced fuel filter
*Opened up ECU and found a bad trace that I repaired

Nothing worked so I ordered a new fuel pressure reg and now the hot start issue is gone. Moral is not to assume that you don't have 2 separate broken parts.

Now I have the following issue:
The engine is a little rough coming up from idle and when blipping the throttle repeatedly.
Also it will cut out occasionally and die while moving forward .

I'm not sure what the issue is now, but at least I can restart it quickly and easily.

Any ideas on what would make it sporadically die?

Thanks,
Chris

It sounds like you still have a vacuum leak somewhere... a bad air flow meter would be my second guess...

I'll start looking for more vacuum leaks. The MAF was good, no dead spots and the gate was functioning well.

I once found a vacuum line off the air/oil separator. That can be hard to detect, as it is located under the intake plenum.

But, if your vacuum lines are all snug, try unplugging the O2 sensor. If this cures the hesitation and stalling, then your sensor is bad.

Hope this helps!

I'll have to check the o2 sensor, I also need to drain the 2 year old gas

It might be contributing.

OK. The mystery issue was the DME. I had another no start and went beck to the beginning and found a no spark at the coil. After hitting the ECU 3 times it started.

I replaced the ECU and all was fine. Until DME relay failed. Sigh. always something. Jumpers with a switch in now, but it's time to get a new one.

Also my right front strut was dead or at least very noisy. New shocks all around on the way.

Stripped my tranny fill hole bolt where the Allan goes. Welded a nut on for now. Have new one on order.

Now I need the Oil pressure sender and to figure out why fuses 12 - the end of that row don't have 12 v to them. Might be the fuse box.

Any ideas of other causes?

Also, anyone know where a guy can get a cap for the hole the tube for CO testing off the exhaust left when it broke? I'm slowly asphyxiating when I drive because of the leak it causes.

Oh, and I still need a new O2 sensor. Car is running uber rich,

Thanks to all you and Clarks garage for all the help.
