I see all these hoses with these weird looking hose clamp type things hooked up to the intake boot

Are these hose clamps re=usable or do you just rip them off and put on regular hose clamps? They seem like they were installed with some obscure tool.

thanks.

They're probably the OEM crimp-on type clamp. I don't like them because they tend to loosen up a little over the years, and they can't really be tightened up. These were a source of a couple of vacuum leaks on my car.

Remove them and replace with fuel injection clamps, or a good stainless worm gear clamp of the proper size.

the clamps made assembly line assembly quicker as machines or even workers can crimp far easier, and faster than they can screw on clamps

If you remove them carefully, then you could possibly reuse them, but I would replace them with something more "user friendly."

Use a dremel to cut off the ears. I like them, especially on small diameter hose, because they seal better than tiny hose clamps and don't need to be retightened like screw type clamps. . .handy for hard to reach areas.
