|
|
Someone had build in an alarm system which, naturaly, didn't work anymore. When taking it out I came across an 14-pole rectangular black plug located next to the radio relay, on the right hand side of the driver side under the dash behind the center console(hope this is a good enough description )
Does anyone know what this is for? It looks to be an original plug, but I can't find it anywhere on the electrical diagrams. _________________ 1987, 924S |

I wonder if its part of the cruise control harness. There is a brain box for cruise under the dash. Does yours have cruise?

Hmmm, that could be it. I never came across a 924 with cruise. It could be the wire harness could contain a cruise control option. I don't know if it's an official option on a 924S?? _________________ 1987, 924S |

Since the 924S used the early 944 engine, it also uses the 944 wiring harness. I suspect this dumb looking plug is either a diagnostic port, or something that did not come standard on a 924S (i.e. cruise control or factory alarm system).
Here's what mine looks like...
And how I found it...

I think it could be for a factory alarm. I was initialy thinking about cruise control but there just seems to be to many wires. If the factory alarm is triggered by the doors, hatch, bonnet, etc, this would be more likely.
Thanks!! _________________ 1987, 924S |

| i would agree it is probably from the 944 engine but does not fit to a 924 item. i have an 88 924s also and there are many lose plugs under the dash but the car works fine. Another thing to note as i see you have taken the car apart, some of the cable dont align, when i got my car the tach did not work. on the schematics for the 924s it says its a red and yellow cable, i found one end but could not find the other, it took me a few months to notice that the 924 gauges use different cable it turned out the red with green chaser connected to the red with yellow chaser out of the comp. you will need both sets of schematics if you are rewiring, the key is to figure out where one ends and the other begins. |

The thing is I have both the haynes manuals for the 924 and 944 but I ca'n't seem to find the plug on any of the electrical schema's. If I browse the Haynes manual site there's no manual for the 924s. The 924 manual covers the years 1976 to 1985 and the 944 manual covers years 1982 to 1988. In both manual there's no mention of the plug whatso ever. Strange thing, the car works fine though, no functions are missing, but still, it's nice to know what everything from the electrical system does in case of a malfunction. _________________ 1987, 924S |

The Factory Service manual's electrical diagram for a 924S clearly shows a 14 pole plug for the cruise control computer on page 97-549. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

And just where can one find this mythical shop manual? I've found the 944 manuals available online in various places....but none for the 924S.
Any help out there? _________________ Mark

The 944 FSM has electrical diagrams for the 924S. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I have the FSM and can find the wiring diagrams, but someone mentioned that there are detailed troubleshooting instructions for the cruise control and all I can find is the wiring diagrams. Any advice?

I found a copy from an Australian site. 6 manuals for the 944 with reference to where the 924S differs.
It's simple the manuals scanned in - not well done - and converted to 6 pdf files.
[EDIT]: The manual set I have is missing so many pages and so many subjects, it is not the help one would hope for. _________________ Mark
