Went out this morning and someone had broken into my car (wish I'd just left it unlocked), so now I'm looking around trying to see if I can find replacement glass for my driver's side door. I'm checking salvage yards first to see if they've got the part. Is the door glass interchangeable from 1988 924S through any of the earlier years of the 924?

Nevermind, I checked around and it looks like it fits just fine. I went to a local junkyard and found an '88 944... shame is it looks like it was a nice one before it got junked. Anyway, the car had windows intact, so I pulled one for only $55 (which seemed pretty good compared to glass shops). Cleaning the window up now and will install it later.

Another question though, anyone have tips for how to remove those junkyard grease-pen numbers? They're resisting my window cleaner at the moment.

try rubbing compound and wax.. might work. seems like 55$ is a good price on that window glass.

Thanks to everyone for your advice! After much blood and incidental discovery of missed glass shards, the window is in! Getting those rollers on the tracks is a bit of a PITA, but overall not too difficult a procedure! Best of all, it goes up and down just fine again.

i dont know if 55$ is a fair price for door window in USA but in Poland for 45$ you can get brand new one from glass shop . used one costs about 20-25$.

In the US (around here) it's typically >$100 to go to a glass shop. When I replaced my Honda's (unfortunately using a glass shop) I think the total was nearer $200. Of course they do the "courtesy" of installing it too. Doing it myself was much cheaper.

Amazingly whatever they used defeated Goo-gone; didn't even scratch it. They must have used devil's blood!

The only way to remove that stuff on the glass is to use a razor. Just make sure the glass is thoroughly clean to reduce the risk of scratching. Then use soapy water to lubricate the surface while gently sliding the razor across. This is a great way to get years of gunk off windows as well.
