Yeah, but you don't want a hi-res photo for an avatar...think how long it would take a page to load if everyone had 6MB photos for their avatar. Hosting services like photobucket and picasaweb provide a way to link out to high res images, but for an avatar, I'm glad this site restricts the file size. I very frequently access my private messages and certain posts from my cell phone when I'm traveling, or via an air card on a laptop. Keeping the page load size down by limiting the avatar is a good idea. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

You need image editing software that allows you to properly "down sample" the original photo. Using the primitive image viewer software that comes with Windows is not sufficient (like Paint or ImageViewer), and you can't just "stretch" or "shrink" the image. You have to down sample it.
I use Photoshop, but it's an expensive program designed for much more sophisticated stuff (which I do for my photography habit). But there are others that are designed for "consumer" applications that will do the same thing. A lot of digital cameras will come with a basic image editing software package that will allow you to down size your image, but the specifics on how to do it are particular to each software package. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

There's a procedure for resizing pics in Paint here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=12941&start=3 _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Photobucket is free and has a resizing feature. Use that. _________________ 924 NA - December/'78 - 5-speed snailshell |
