honestly why would anyone want to basterdize a Porsche with a Ford engine. I mean come one not a Fix Or Repair Daily, or a #### On Race Day, or a Found On Reserve/Road Dead.
if you are going to stick in a V8 engine go with a 928 engine, or a chevy as chevy is way better

You know, I was considering putting a Ford engine in my car, but now that I know that FORD stands for Fix Or Repair Daily, etc., I feel ashamed for even thinking about it!
I mean, I've heard technical arguments from both sides, you know, all that mumbo-jumbo about overhead cams vs. pushrods and all that other nonsense. This argument blows those out of the water! Like, hey FORD guy, your car means Fix Or Repair Daily! Take that!

I sense sarcasm 924turbo....
People like tinkering with what they know, if they can rebuild a Ford 5.0L blindfolded they tend to like working on 5.0L Fords. |

yah and the OLD fords where ok, but from about 1960 up they are junk. I used to work in a mechanics shop most of the vehicles that came in were oh oh FORD's. Plus look at the comparisons of the engines the 5.oL only puts out what 300 maybe horse and that is done up, and guzzeling gas like mad, where there are the more effecient european engines.

Keep in mind, Chevy engines aren't any better or more reliable than Ford motors, some of the parts are a little cheaper, that's all. Speaking as somebody who has a great deal of experience with Fords, you treat them well, they last forever. You abuse them, they break down.
I also have experience with Fords that have been abused, and just keep going...

hmm my stock 5.0L has over 200,000miles on it, and runs like a champ. it gets way beter milage than my porsche ever did, and is more reliable, try that with a chebby motor. and 300hp is done with a set of heads and a cam, or less. there is many 5.0L's running around on stock long blocks making 500+ hp, and getting milage in the 20's. checkout this link http://members.cox.net/bobcosby/stang and slect the 12 second recipe. this car went 12.5 in the quarter mile with a basicly stock mustang.
or maybe before you keep running your mouth about shitbox chevies, take a look at this link http://www.megamustang.com/86GT/9sec.htm 9 second quarter miles, over 600hp, and thats on a totaly stock shortblock, stock rods, crank, block, fuel system, ingintion. try that with a chevy!

Some Ford V8's are great engines and respond well to modifications, and the same goes for Chevy.
A personal friend of mine has a 450 rear wheel horsepower (~550hp) '01 Z28 auto that uses a stock shortblock, and no forced induction or nitrous. His best is 10.87@127.1, and he runs almost every other week, and the car has been completely reliable. He drives it on the street, for chrissakes. His previous car, a 400rwhp (~470 flywheel HP) heads/cam '93 Z28, was also very reliable (and street driven).
His new project is an overbore (396 cubic inch) LS1, that has thus far made 496 rwhp. That's about 600 horsepower, with a factory injection system, stock crank, rods, ignition, and again, no nitrous or forced induction.
There are Z28's running in the 11.20 range @ 120mph with no internal engine modifications of any kind.
All this anti-Ford or anti-Chevy nonsense belongs somewhere else, and seems dreadfully out of place on a Porsche 924 message board.

| I agree. My friend has a stock '8X Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 and it smokes at the track. His car has never given him any trouble and he races his regularly. I think he runs high 12's. These cars ( Chevy/Ford blocks ) are fast and reliable and should not be dogged out because they are not Porsches. Chevy is known for their racing engines. |

This is one of Josh's friends, an avid "Ford guy" who drives a '93 Ranger and beats the hell out of it on a daily basis. Wow Lizard, your wealth of knowledge on Ford's and Ford 302's amazes me *rolls eyes*. The Ford 5.0L is one of the, if not THE, most widely produced engines ever built. There is so much aftermarket for that engine that it's not even funny. Part are basically dirt cheap because of availability and abundancy. And where do you get off saying that Ford's are unreliable? In the year that I've had my Ranger, it's only failed to start TWICE, once due to fuel line freeze up, and the other time due to a battery dying...Hmmmm, seems pretty reliable to me, considering that I run it up past 4 grand on a somewhat regular basis and I am NOT nice to it. Sure, eventually something will break, but so will something on your precious Porsche if you run it hard daily (and I'd be willing to bet money that a hard driven 5.0 would outlast a hard driven, late 70's to early 80's Porsche 2.0L 4 banger). I have a cousin who BEATS the living CRAP out of his '91 Mustang GT (has a 5.0L. Just thought I'd let you know what the early 90's Mustang GT's had, since your knowledge of Ford vehicles doesn't seem to be that great). I'm talking EVERY time he takes the car out, he runs it up to AT LEAST the redline in the first 3 gears, several times. He's had the car for 3 1/2 years now, and he has yet to break ANYTHING (he has replaced some parts for more performance and standard maintance, but he's never had it break down on him). My mom and dad have been driving Ford's (Escorts at that) for 20+ years. None of them have let us down more than twice (and those were the early 80's Escorts, not exactly good years for ANY cars). Each car lasted 7+ years. My dad currently has a 98 Escort SE wagon, aka "The Shaggin Wagon" as we call it, and it is a rock solid car. It's got 105,000 miles on it, and it's just getting broken in. I used to drive it quite a bit before I got my truck, and I quite frequently beat the crap out of it, and he's done his share of beating the crap out it. He raced a freakin 911 just to see how badly it would beat him (obviously it whooped him bad, but he still ravaged the engine doing that). It's been in a number of races, including one against a '79 924, which I won. All of our vehicles have been 5-speeds, just so you know. Need anymore examples of Ford's LASTING? I can give you plenty of exapmles of Ford's being FIRST ON RACE DAY.
Your little comment about 5.0's only putting out 300HP is a JOKE. Those engines can EASILY push 450HP naturally aspirated, and with forced induction, they can push upwards of 700 HP. Go pick up a Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine and check out all the drag 'Stangs. Those cars are BEASTS that would rip your little 924 a NEW ONE 10 times over (PS, I have nothing against Porsche's, they are EXTREMELY well engineered cars that are completely badass for the most part. I have been helping Josh restore his for MONTHS now). Ever hear of the brand new '03 SVT Cobra? Hmmmm, 381 rwhp stock sounds really nice to me. So does a 12.61 1/4 mile E/T, stock. The 00 Cobra R, in 2000, beat the crap out of the brand new top of the line Corvette's and even Vipers. That's with a supercharged 5.4L V8. Seems to me Ford can put out some POWERFUL and fairly reliable cars. Look at the F-150 Lightnings. Those are FAST, and they're full sized trucks.
Just as one more example, I have a friend with a 98 Ranger XLT, and he has run his truck so hard that it basically shut down. He turned it off, started it back up, and proceeded to beat the hell out of it more.
So, what do you have to say about Ford reliablity now? Sure, you can say that you worked on a bunch of them, but so what? I've seen plenty of Chevy's, Pontiac's, Honda's, and even (OMG) German cars at shops. Every vehicle breaks down eventually.

Ford builds some mighty fine engines allright... I know, I have 1 in a shop, and another in my van.
I just want a 931 though, my engine swaps will be limited to other cars... Unless I have enough spare cash on hand, and come across a 20VT from an S car.
