I am running a clean straight set of Phonies and like the way they feel on the car, but go back and forth on the look. I am thinking about a set of cookies powdercoated gloss black on the inside with a polished rim. (I do my own PC work).
So it seems everyone has an opinion on what will and will not work, and I am cool with that. This is a street car daily driver, not lowered or tracked. I was looking at a set of 4 15x7 cookies but am getting paranoid about what to get for fear of not fitting properly. A couple easy questions to confirm:
924S has what folks refer to as "early offset", correct?
All cookies are "early offset" wheels, correct? (not too sure on this one)
With early offset wheels, the concern then becomes clearing the fenders, not the inner fender wells/suspension rub.. correct?
Is it universally agreed that to be "safe and sure", one should not go wider than a 15x6 early offset wheel?
I apologize if I am oversimplifying the wheel thing here guys. If I am too clueless just send me back to the search engine and I will do more reading.
Thanks!!!

7s in the rear is not a problem, Porsche specs 7s on the rear of 924s for summer tires (not for winter, since there is a problem with chain clearance).
Yes, some people claim that they are running 7s in the front and 8s in the rear without problems (or they don't lose that much steering lock, or the tires don't rub that bad, or all the time). Personally, I think any loss of steering lock, rubbing on the sway bar, or tire cutting is not acceptable.
In the front there is a problem with 7s either rubbing on the sway bar at full lock (restricting full steering wheel movement), or rubbing on the fenders during suspension travel.
Personally, I recommend staying with Porsche's recommended 6s in the front and 7s in the rear. |

I have 4 front weels from a Boxter on my '87 924S. Talk about light, they weigh next to nothing. Balancing them was a nightmare. They did them al 3 times, last time with an computer controlled machine, before it was driveable.
I tried to put original 7J 944's on there but it didn't fit. 7J should be possible since I had "turbo look" rims on my '78 924, but it barely fits.
I realy doubt the 8J rims are going to fit without serious modification. _________________ 1987, 924S |

7 x 17 55 mm offset wheels from the front of a 993, 986, etc work great.
6 x 16 52.5 mm offset trash can wheels from a 931 also work great. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
