Anyone ever used the belt and roller kit from Paragon? Is there another recommended source?
And yes, I know the preference for OEM water pumps, and the reasons for that preference. _________________ Toofah King Bad

ideola,
that looks like a Lasco waterpump in the kit, which is a VERY POORLY made copy of the OEM Porsche pump. Loose bearings, and poor casting quality with voids, even on the hose mating surfaces.
I don't see how that kit could be worth $650. If that is a Lasco waterpump, the pump is worth less than $150 retail. |

Not sure what that bolt is for, as I have never used that kit before.
Offhand, I would guess that it's to replace either the timing belt tensioner stud (looks like ther may be a step or two on it), or to replace one of the bolts that has a tendency to corrode and snap off when it's coolant soaked as the waterpump starts to deteriorate and leak. |

I have purchased and installed the Paragon Products kit, and almost everything in the kit was genuine Porsche or high quality OEM.
I would highly recommend Paragon (Jason) - everything I have purchased from them has been top notch.

bcblase...
How long ago did you get the kit from Paragon?
Was the waterpump new or used (did you get a choice?)?
Who was the manufacturer/remanufacturer of the waterpump?
Where does the bolt in question go?
What parts weren't Genuine Porsche? |

The bolt in the 944online looks like the "Cam Bolt"
999-510-022-08-M260 Camshaft Bolt, 8 x 65 mm, 924S, 944/S/S2/Turbo, 968, Each Brand: OEM
The bolt may work loose. It should be replaced and not retorqued.

Yes, the bolt is the "Cheesehead" (triple square) bolt for the cam gear. It is recommended to replace the original bolt with the new style. _________________ Matt

Hey gohim,
I bought the kit last Fall. It came as combination of belts and rollers kit, new waterpump, and waterpump mounting kit.
I don't recall all of the parts in question, I just remember a lot of the parts being packaged in plastic bags with the genuine Porsche logo tags on the bags, just like from the dealer. I did purchase the new waterpump as part of the FOES kit - I felt it was worth the money. I don't recall the make of the pump, but I can check when I get home.
The "waterpump bolt" with flange that Paragon sells ($1.37) goes through the middle of the pump housing for securing the pump to the engine block.
I don't know about the bolt shown in the 944online kit. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924S - track toy

I just bought and received a front engine kit. How do I tell what goes to what? So far all I can figure out is the balance shaft portions. _________________ 67 Mercury Cougar XR7 under Restoration

The timing tensioner is installed so the lip keeps the belt from walking toward the rear cover, and the balance tensioner is the reverse. Once you have the covers off and look it over, it will become clear. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Pay attention to the part numbers and use PET. BS seals are very close in size to one another, but are different. _________________ Toofah King Bad
