Back Story: I got the car as partial payment for changing the clutch out in a guys 944. He got the car from some guy who inherited it. The guy inherited it from his dad who was a drug dealer and bought the car new back in 1980. Dad got busted and went to prison where he ended up dying last year. Apparently after the guy went to jail, the car was just parked in a garage and forgotten about until he died. So it sat for 14 years.
First thing I did was to drop the gas tank because I was certain that it had some crap built up in it from sitting for so long. I replaced the steel tank with a plastic one from a 951 parts car that I have. I had to cut out the cross member and weld in the newer one and weld the tranny mounts to it. The whole job was surprisingly very simple. I switched over to the single fuel pump from the 951 as well. I then replaced the entire fuel system except for lines and the accumulator. I got a remanufactored fuel distributor with a 2 year warranty from Jayten industries. Next I changed all three belts and put in new fuilds.
The car cranked right up, ran really rough, but after some tinkering with the A/F ratio I've almost got it right... still a little rich I think.
Interior was in pretty good shape except for the dash. I got a plastic cover on it, but don't like the way it fits so I think I'm going to take a spare dash and try recovering it in leather.
The body was also in good shape and came with the body kit. I shaved the ugly side markers and the antenna. I got a hatch from the 951 with the bigger spoiler. I shaved the rubber pads off the rear bumper and I would have shaved the pads off the front but I didn't like the gap between the bumper and the turn signal so I just cut them down to nubs. I drilled the front bumper shocks and pushed it in a couple inches and then welded it back up. Then I painted it.
The front spoiler got broken about a week ago when it snowed and the car slid while I was pulling into a parking space. It hit the curb and broke off a little chunk. As soon as the weather breaks for good, I'll plastic weld it back up and repaint it.
The wheels were pretty dingy and wheel cleaner wasnt helping so I striped them and painted them black then went back and sanded and polished the rim and the center caps. Turned out pretty good.
Only thing left to do is replace the speedo cable.
A couple things I wanted to vent about: CIS is frustrating as almighty hell. And my heater fan went out and did the germans really have to put it in the one place where you have to disassemble the interior from the seats forward to get to it?!?!??!
Anyways, hope you guys like my car. I am planning on selling it in a few months after I get my 931 project on the road. _________________ 1980 924 NA

Too bad about that chin spoiler, it looks pretty sweet. Any idea where it came from? _________________ Toofah King Bad

FOHA, as in FOHA Corp from Ontario Canada... they do replica spoilers, etc. Google's an amazing thing... couldn't find a website for em though... _________________ Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot about Porsche!

I dig the 924 body without the round side markers. Might try that on the next car I paint. _________________ Current project 1981 931

Yea that sounds about right. I know it starts with a Z. It won't be that hard to fix, only a couple of hours. I plan on fixin it in a few eeks when the weather is nicer. _________________ 1980 924 NA
