So i had a pleasant phone conversation with a receptionist at an Auto Electrician today. I'd shortlisted a few that i wanted to call to enquire about getting my ignition sorted. The first one i called (the business shall remain nameless... alright i don't remember the name so sue me) was in Spine Street in Sumner Park. I realise this will affect almost no-one on this site but if you know anyone in Brisbane that ever needs an auto electrician never let them use that one. So i explained the problem as completely as i could while also explaining that i wasn't interested in anyone trying to fleece me based solely on the badge on the sodding hood. At which point she pretty much started trying to fleece me based on the badge on the sodding hood. We've all heard it before - we'll need special tools... extra time because its an "exotic" or some other rubbish. In any case i politely informed her that its essentially a German parts bin motor with fairly standard ignition components that can mostly be bought from any SuperCheap or Autobarn or whereever. She butted in with "well we're not interested then..." click. And hung up on me. Apparently this is the way small businesses are run these days... WTF?!?!?

Needless to say i finally found someone who appears on the level. I explained the Porsche bit and she seemed to understand and simply added that the only issue might be parts. Which really shouldn't actually be an issue.

Yeah i can dig. I've tried and owe massive thanks to specifically RC, macBdog, Scorpio and leadfoot but the rewiring and electrical stuff is just over my head and i'm officially desperate to get back behind the wheel.

some are just fleecers period... I have found good people interested in
in helping then its allright..

I hear theres alot of wild fires over there..

Can understand your predicament Dan. After all the time you must have spent working on it accept that it is more cost effective to pay a professional for a few hours and earn yourself the money at your day job.

Shop around more mate, there must be heaps of auto electricians in Brissy. Avoid bigger firms with higher overheads. Check yellow pages for a small independent guy that will be flexible and preferably come to you and work for cash. Save the tow fee and use it to pay 1/2 the bill. Its only a simple job really, using common ford/holden parts. Tell them that and how youre not going to get ripped on P tax.

hit's hit an' miss with wiring.. I had wiring problems orig. in my 924 turbo and i called all around for help and got alot of "sorry not interested.. click.."'s it's really hit an' miss.. lotsa people are afraid of this car, as they should be. i've never personally in my life had so much trouble/ problems with one car then this one. But ya gotta love 'em..

You know the reason I've learned what I have about this car... Is this exact problem.

Called Duane's German Autohaus in Langley and got told "How am I supposed to fix it if I don't know what's *F*ing wrong with it".

Called guys in abbotsford at EuroPro asking for a fuel system flush & cleanup and they told me they told me "It's not worth working on those"
and I said... Here's $1200, you won't do it? "Nope, not worth working on those"

Yet they've got ugly Beemers, Mercedes & other 1980's rejects parked all outside that they're repairing. I dare say I hope those guys don't consider their cars collectible...

Out here, finding a friendly VW/Porsche mechanic is like trying to find a cosmetics ad in a Nascar magazine. It aint happening!

Excellent. So basically they'll work with your car, and fairly extensively by the sound of it but won't touch mine for what should by all rights be a pretty simple fix. And all basically cos the receptionist is crazy rude.

This is ridiculous. If i do abandon this car and move on to something else it will undoubtedly be pretty much for this reason.

Now i get a call from someone waiting at my house for the sparky to show up for an 8am appointment time and still no sign at 9.45. I've got to chase them up and he doesn't know when he'll be done with his first job. There's a job before 8 in the morning? I was given the impression i was first cab off the rank.

I've reached breaking point with this. I no longer want the car running... i need the car running as i have no fallback options and need a running car and was really hoping to have one for tomorrow.

I honestly cannot fathom why people will not work on this car.

Scorpio and Aussie... i will send PMs.

I can assimilate to this, my 79 has a crack a big crak on the pipe silencer for the mufler, went to an autozone in Juarez, Mexico, cuss it should be cheaper and asked for a silencer to replace and the guy just kept asking for what car, when I told him he was like sorry we dont carry for that car, I told him I only need a standard or universal one, and he is like we cant help we dont have for that car, then I said just give some pipe then straigh and like 12 inches long, and still said our pipes wont fit that car, it is a Porsche those cars have super engines that can ahndle the simple stuff other cars have, and I said I just need the pipe can you sell it to me, and he was just I cant you dont know that those cars cant use just any product, I just got pissed and left.

Some people think they know better because they are behind the shelf, dont know if that makes them feel the car gurus

Anyone got a spare dizzy to overnite me?

Apparently its a faulty pickup coil in the dizzy. It needs to be either replaced or reconditioned - actually i think it needs to be replaced and he can't source it at the moment. Reckons it'll cost just over 400. double

actually wanna keep mine as a backup incase EFI doesnt work for me...ahhh well i can have it on your door within an hour just let me know!

im guessing my 79 dizzy will work on yours mmm
