erm - so, the front bumper is made of metal on US cars?!

Jesus - how much does that weigh?! (Rhetorical question...)

@Smoothie - mixing metric and UNC hardware... tut, tut!

Yes, but it's "fiber glass" that RoW cars got.

-And yes, US (and Canada?) got some big chunks of aluminum, most of it approx. [3/16"] thick -

-Not heavy, but could easily be 2x, 3x, or moreX heavier than the fiber glass versions. ..Then add the bumper shocks..

US or NA

bumper bare 21 lbs
" rubbers about 3 lbs ea
Shocks about 2 1/2 ea

Euro is FG
bare 11 lbs
rubbers about 1lb
no shocks just twisted metal 2= 1lb.

You figure out the difference

So converting from US to ROW bumpers saves 12.5 pounds at each end, or maybe 25 pounds if you switch out both of them.

Other than for looks or hard-core racing, that hardly seems worth the effort.

It looks many times better, IMO, but I would be awfully nervous about an inopportune "love tap."

Agreed, I think the best of both world would be a modified US bumper that looks like the Euro bumper; I just have no clue how big of a nightmare it would be to do that.
Those integrated fog/driving lights are just too damn neat to pass up.

All told I saved a lot of weight with my conversion to euro bumpers. I think the savings would be in the 40+ pounds. Not a lot but what do you have to do to lose 40 elsewhere on the car. Taking out the rear seats and all the sound deadening material in the cabin and trunk would not total 40 lbs.

Plexiglass hatch weighs about 10 lbs ver 75 lbs.
door motors and mirrors ea side about 3-4 lbs.
Front seats about 35 ea with race seats savings about 45-50 lbs
radio and speakers maybe 3 lbs.
so you would think the bumpers make sense if your purpose is to lighten the car. All of the changes could make a larger difference.

I went as far as taking off all the emblems, water container for the windshield, all interior material other than the seats, removed the air conditioning and am contemplating getting a plexi hatch.

I have one I might be willing to trade for a good euro bumper setup...

im a little late on this subject but, I really like the big rectangular fog lights. I think they are very period correct. i bought amber bosch ones and mounted them on my car.I love the amber lights, its so american le mans GT style. I changed the location tho...

I think the round ones are cool, but look newer than the car. I think I might add yellow headlight tint, still on the fence abou that one.

I like the rear turbo valance, and it's £180 which is $251. Mmmm, I was thinking of making one this spring/summer out of thin wood and then fiberglass over it....
