Hi' Guys
Does any body know if the 2000cc turbo alternator fits the n/a 2000cc???
I ask this because my current alternator has had the brushes replaced and a new voltage regulator, it was fine for a short while but is charging poorly again?? my alternator doesn't seem to have the cooling duct going to it, could this be the cause of poor charging? _________________ Black 1984

Are you sure it is not a grounding problem?
Did you have an alternator shop test your alternator?
I had mine tested, it took just a couple of minutes and was free of charge.
If the copper rings the bushes run on are damaged, the alternator will eat through the bushes in no time.
And yes you should install the back cover and cooling hose.

Yeh just checked the ground strap, it seemed ok but need to take it off the car really. I had a mechanic replace the brushes and regulator about 3 months ago, he said it'll be fine after that but its slowly started to charge poorly to the point where all my gages are going out of whack and the car becomes difficult to start after a hot run. Theirs a turbo alternator on ebay for cheap that I'm thinking I mite buy? _________________ Black 1984

Well I don't know.
I got an exchange (like new) laternator for 100 euro ex vat = 80 pounds ex vat.
You can also buy another voltage regulator and see if this helps, reasoning that the old one died so quickly in such a hot environment.
A Hella voltage reg costs something like 10 euros. It is just screwed to the back of the alt. If you have the alt out, it takes one minute to replace the voltage reg.
But, like I said before. Only having the alt tested will decide if your setup is at fault or the alt...

To answer your first question, yes, it'll bolt right in. That said, considering new ones are fairly cheap, maybe that's the way to go (says the guy who disassembles his to change the bearings...). _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor
