I was reading this thread:

http://www.924.org/techsection/GarageFAQ.htm#snailshellshifter

and in the section pertaining to oil pressure, the last paragraph talks of replacing the sending unit and states that this part is around $80.

When my 86 VW Golf, 1.8 gas engine had a oil light problem- came on after slowing from higher speeds and stayed on between 2200 and 2800 rpm, I replaced the sending unit. Didn't solve that problem {still don't know it does that}. But, I asked if it was the same one as used on the 924 N/A. According to Napa, LordCo, and Autozone, it is the same part, same number.

Cost: $5.64CDN. Way less than a Porsche part.

BTW, if anyone can tell me why an engine would have a oil light come on from 2200-2800rpm, {normal driving range} but at idle{ when oil pressure is at its lowest}, no light. Higher speeds are fine, too.

I bought the car as a parts chasing beater car, and would like to solve that problem.

You should find the $5.64 part is a sender for the light only. Most of us have an oil pressure gauge which requires the more expensive dual function sender that feeds both the light and the gauge.

See if some of the foil on the firewall behind the sender (behind the head) is loose - it might be touching the contacts, causing the light to come on at odd times.

the cheapest (possible) fit I could find was 15eur/20$...
I got the stock VDO sensor.

Rather pay more for the sensor than paying for a rebuild because my readings were wrong.
