Hi Guys,

I'd like to get my front windscreen replaced as it has a few cracks...and defects...and has gone a funny white colour along the base.

Replacement is covered by insurance, (albeit with a small excess to pay).

I just wanted to ask if there's anything special I need to know before I book it to be done.

I know that my screen doesn't have the strip that inserts into the gap on the outside edge - but i've read on here that it's quite cheap from porsche and can reduce cockpit noise while driving.

Is there anything else that I should buy or know about?

Thanks everyone
Tiny

Ask if you can pay the difference to have your windshield replaced with the parts from a 944 (flush windshield).

IMHO the flush windshield looks better, and should cut down on wind noise. The actual windshield opening is the same size for the flush windshield and the recess windshield.

The difference is a spacer that sits below the windshield, and the rubber seal that fits on the glass itself (may come on the replacement windshield, but I am not sure).

I am sure that it will cost you a few bucks, but if they will due the substitution, the insurance company will pay most of the cost, and for a reasonable sum, you get a performance and appearance improvement.

Thanks Gohim,
A good idea...i tried...but unfortunately they will only replace like-for-like due to legalities etc..
So I'll get the standard 924 screen replaced and then fit the gaskets to cover the recessed gap as per the HOW-TO:

thanks again,
Tiny

Only thing I found when I had mine replaced was that the company were a bit cagey about replacing on such an old car in case the aperture was corroded.

I've got the trims around the edge of mine but haven't been in a car without them so can't comment on that.
