Time: 13:34:45It sounds to me like what you're bypassing is not actually the cold-start injection valve, which is located at the back of the intake, and has a fuel as well as an electrical connection; rather, it sounds like you're bypassing the aux air valve which is only a throttle bypass for cold starts.
This you've confirmed by bypassing it; this is the equivalent of a really cold start.
The way the thing works is that it's completely open when the unit itself is very cold; as either the engine warms up, or as the bimetallic strip inside the unit heats up by electrical current, then the valve will close, and all air feeding the engine passes through the throttle body.
So, if what you described is the case, it sounds as if it's not opening fully. The easiest way to check this is remove it from the car and stick it in the freezer for an hour or two - you should then be able to see through it. If not, it's stuck and will either have to be replaced or fixed (if you can soak it in WD40 and get it moving again).
Good luck, feel free to come back with any more questions...
