I've seen folks do mock ups using PVC pipe. Mount through the body to the frame - don't just weld it to the body.

Here are some shots:

That is my autopower roll-bar. Excellent for the appropriate use of harnesses and one-piece bucket seats with harness pass throughs.

A roll-cage is a different animal as it has structure ahead of the front seats, including a forward roll hoop, door bars, knee bar. A roll-cage is really for a race car and should be built to the governing body's specification for whatever type of racing you are doing.

. . .and a full race cage with bars coming forward of the front seats should only be used with a helmet, otherwise they can bust your melon.

Don't forget that if you do take the car to a track, they they'll likely want to make sure the bar is built and installed to their specs. This includes the seat (which usually needs a collapsible support brace from the seat back to the main roll hoop) the Harnesses (proper angles to prevent spinal compression, proper mounting hardware) So be sure to do your research before plopping a bar into place.

Finally, a bar designed for a 944 will work as they are the same basic chassis, so that might help widen your search. More than likely you would have to have it shipped from Germany or England, unless you can take some time and pick it up while on Holiday.

here is a pretty cool example of a 944 roll cage set up for racing:

have to scroll down a bit for the roll cage photos.

That's exactly what i'm looking for...

in Track Days we don't have much specs to respect... it isn't pro competition.. only amateur..

i always use halmet on Track.. just for the weekend use i don't

aaaaaand that is exactly what you don't want to have on the street. You will smack your melon on the bars (the padding is only good in combination with a helmet)

Even amateurs need good equipment. A poorly built and installed cage can do more damage than good. I would go talk to the folks in the 924 Racing section as they are actively using cages and safety equipment for their amateur racing.

I vaguely remember a member telling a story of their own about getting knocked on the nugget because he was driving a full cage car on the street (without a helmet).

edit:
this isn't what I was thinking, but a good example nonetheless.
