Wipers Stop when I turn them off - no matter where they are.

I assume our cars have a wiper park switch and mine is bad - I've not looked it up in Haynes yet. But would this also be when the first position (fixed intermittent) doesn't do anything also?

In other words, I have four positions with my wiper lever - off, 1 (intermittent- ?), 2-slow, 3-fast. When I move my lever to position 1 nothing happens. Whenever I move it to position 2 or 3 when I bring it back down to off, the wipers stop where ever they are - they do not return to resting place. When I push forward on that same lever, to wash the windows, nothing happens there too.

So is all this a wiper park switch (if we have one) or is it that, the wiper motor, and maybe something else.

Naturally, I will check all my wiring first - clean and replace - but just want to understand what else could be it after I go that route.

There is a intermittent wiper relay that handles the intermittent function and the stopping at the bottom. I'm guessing the relay isn't in place or its broken.

The no-park problem can be caused by a faulty or absent wiper relay.
The interval (intermittant) wiping function is also handled by the wiper relay.
Whoops - add to that the wash-wipe function - that's also handled by the wiper relay (just the wiping part of the function - the wash spray is seperate, and handled by the switch and the pump).
It sure is starting to look like a wiper relay problem.

Agree- relay is missing or faulty. (could be a faulty motor but unlikely)
Switch positions from top are:
fast
slow
off
intermittent.

Dumbest arrangement ever! Why isn't OFF at the bottom? (Rhetorical question.)

When I had a problem with the wipers parking it turned out to be the stalk switch. One of the contacts wasn't ...er... contacting in the OFF/Park position; I needed to bend it up slightly with a screwdriver to get it to contact properly.

If you take the switches off its best to clean all the contacts including the wash switch and add some dielectric grease afterwards.

I'm sure you will get the right answer here.

I had the problem with the wipers stopping where ever they were, but the motor I had was also very noisy so I just replaced it and everything was fine after that.

At least they are consistent, new Porsches are the same, so call it training for when you buy a newer Porsche.

Ask Ozzie if Fiat 124 Spyders aren't even stupider. I had a '70 Fiat Spyder that had the headlights controlled by a stalk switch. I was constantly shutting off the headlights while making a turn because I'd hit the headlight switch instead of the turn signal. -And for windsheild washing the pump was a manual foot operated deal on the floor instead of a normal cars' electric pump. -And don't even ask about valve adjustment..
On the bright side, at least the spark plugs were easy to get at.

Yeah and everyone wondered if it had a V8 when they looked at the double overhead cam covers.

Also points, plugs and brake pads were 12,000 mile items.

BTW they have interference engines.

Yes and who has ever heard of a timing mark for the fuel and oil pump pulley?
I can understand setting the crank and both cams but the extra idler cam?

If you dont set it right the cam will hit the skirt on the pistons.

Hi Skemcin
sounds like you could have a bad wiper switch or loose connection where it plugs into the harness in the steering column , since you have no washers either. It does have a wiper relay in the fuse box 4th relay from the left right above the fuses. could have a poor connection or defective. un plug it & put it back in. tap on it see if this makes a difference. Let me know how it turns out or if you need more info

Lotus Europa's third cam has marks too since it drives the distributor.
