the brake light just below my boost gauge blinks on and off. I think it is a short in the dash as the low oil pressure light on the left instrument panel blinks simultaneously. Any ideas on where to start looking for trouble? Also are the dash lights always so dim? I have the dimmer maxed out but its like driving in a cave. Also my radio is DOA. It appears to be the original Blaupunct.

Check also the switch under the handbrake; these tabs often bend and cause the light to stay on or blink. A little pressure will persuade them to stay off.

I have an 1981 924 Turbo which does exactlty the same. The original handbook which came with my car explains that the oil light is expected to flash at idle and is no cause for concern.

My car is going in for some work in a week to a Porsche specialist. I'll get them to check it all out and let you know what they say.

Regards

Peter

oil light, when an engine gets some age on it the oil presure drops at idle to the point that the light will flicker or stay on. This can happen when the car is hot too, the guage though should never read below 1 bar, if it does something is wrong. My car will flicker and drop to about 1.5 to 1.75 on the gauge sometimes, you can idle up the engine a little before you go just to be sure the engine is getting a good oil presure before you take off under load.
