I'm not sure if I like this or not. Ok, I like it, just wondering if it would be to much. I need to replace the center patch in the seat as mine is showing it's ago. I am thinking about removing the yellow plaid and replacing it with a solid yellow microfiber.
Before, and yes not a good picture at all
Fabric I am looking at.

And a psuedo glimpse of what I think it would look like.
What do you guys think? _________________ '77 Yellow 924 |

I like, just make sure the fabric is UV resistant otherwise all your hard work will fade within a few months _________________ 1979 NA

Yes I believe I can, The drivers side seat in the top picture had some seriously weathered and cracked vinyl on it. I replaced all the front pieces last weekend. While I had it apart I checked the center fabric. looks a little more difficult to ripple but doable.
And good point on the fading, will have to check into that.
I had thought about doing them in complete leather, then decided against it due to the cost and finding the right kind of leather for seats. Vinyl was the easy choice for replacing the black. _________________ '77 Yellow 924 |

make sure its automotive vinyl from a trim supplier, the stuff i have for my dash was made for cars and boat seats..which are in the sun a large majority of the time.. not all vinyl was created equally, i learnt the hard way! _________________ 1979 NA

The black was done with marine vinyl that I had left over from recovering my boat seats.
The microfiber I am looking at is rated for automotive upholstery. I requested a swatch of it to see exactly what it looks like. If it's a decent fabric then I'll more then likely go ahead with this project. I leave out for a trip to Austin in about a week so I'll start it after I return. I'll post some pics after I'm done. _________________ '77 Yellow 924 |

My seats originally looked exactly like yours.. I decided to re-cover them and get a newer looking pattern on them..
Just an idea..

Oh now I like that curved look in the center stitching. May check into adding that to mine. I like the thought of the yellow centers though. Although I still haven't gotten my fabric sample yet to see if it something I would like or not. _________________ '77 Yellow 924 |

Hey Chewtoy, dont think we have met yet because I have been away from the board for a long while.. Welcome aboard
Got an idea to run by you.. How about doing the seats in black like mine, but instead doing all of the piping and stitching in yellow.. it would look AWESOME in my opinion..

Hiya Sparky, I've been around the board for a little while. actually got the car almost a year ago. But didn't really start into it until this year.
I had thought about doing the yellow threading but I'm not going to replace all the fabric. Only the center section. I replaced a few peieces of the black a few weeks ago. But most of it was still in really good shape so I left it. Anyway tot he point. Since I'm not replacing it all the only sticting I will be doing is around the center section.
My plans right now are to brighten the seats witht he yellow suede and then I have an extra set of gauges that I am looking at turning yellow as well. Once those are done I have though about a yellow shift boot, but that may be too much. Just want some highlights. Really liked the way the interior of the Yellow GTOs looked with the yellow seats and dash. _________________ '77 Yellow 924 |

| If it were my car, I would try to find the orignal center material. Please don't get a yellow shift boot, pretty ricer. The original material is propaly gonna cost some, (if you can even find it) but if you can't, get something close. Becuase plain yellow, is just to, hurm... yellow. |
