I've gotten my car out of storage. I only put it on the road for the warmer months.(Winter is nasty here) It went into storage with no problems, now I have two issues. Starts fine and at normal idle. Once it gets warmed up the idle raises to about 2200 rpms. Vac hoses seem all fine and have been mostly replaced.

Also, when I shut it down I lose about a gallon of anti-freeze out the overflow tube. Time to replace the thermostat? It seems fine while the car is running.

This is a 1982 fuel injected Weissach clone

Any suggestions?

thanks

The high idle could be any of many things including, but not limited to: WUR stuck in the warm-up (extra rich) position, throttle valve not closing completely, AAV not closing, decel valve not closing..

For the boil-over only after shutdown, I'd make sure the rad fan runs as it should after shutdown, make sure the mix of antifreeze/coolant to water is correct (roughly 50:50), check (or maybe just replace) the coolant reservoir pressure cap. A bad thermostat would normally reveal itself with a high reading on the temp gauge and/or boilover while running.

Dude i had the same problem!

disclaimer: im a super stoned right now but im going to try my best...

alright this is what i did to fix it.. it looks like maybe your car is like mine meaning it idles low when its cold and when it warms up the idle goes to about 2000 rpm, this could either be a faulty Warm up regulator or possible vaccum leak but i really dont know where!
anyways on the throttle body, where the throttle clamp rests on you can see a screw, or some cars have the thread with the a bolt, but all you need to do is push the screw in more so the throttle flaps will close more. so if you do that, your car your car should idle low when cold but then normal when warm..

this is how my car is and it has alway been since i bought it

hope tis helps!

boil over after shut down???
is that when you turn off the ignition but then the car still tries to run and white smoke comes out the intake?

i also had that problem, you should get your timming checked and use fuel injector cleaner because that is what i did and it has not done it since

Reference boiling over after shut down.

I had a car that did that (not a Porsche) and the problem went away when I changed the water pump - never found out why...

Your worn out pump (or loose belt?) wasn't moving water through the engine fast enough, so the coolant was too hot and close to the boiling point. On shutdown, coolant in the head (once it was no longer circulating) was heated past the boiling point.

That makes sense.

The belt wasn't too loose, the bearing had gone - because I was running the belt too tight!
