Chewtoy - timing has been set to where it runs / idles best. When I check the timing there is a visible + where you check the timing...
I havn't said this, but I can get up to 50 - 60 km/h. so 30 mph or so... It seems to drive better in 3rd and 4th... seems that's the point where I can hold it the longest.
Eturbo - I still need to try unplugging the WUR, i'll let u know the result soon.
Ozzie - sorry are you referring to the bottom of the fuel tank? I am unsure how it is, I havn't had the tank taken out of the car to be cleaned. As much as I would like to, the tank seems to be a bit of a project to take out ...
Joes924Racer - it sounds pretty powerful when I rev it...
Buwani931 - I have bought new injectors and have replaced the fuel pump. The filter is new and properly installed. I have mentioned that the three items along the fuel delivery line that have not been checked are the accumulators, fuel distributor, and warm up regulator... anyone think any of those could create symptoms such as I am having?
Ozzie - I will have to check what model I put in... _________________ 77 924, It Drives ! |

What happened with the ride? Did you find out what it is doing or still having problems? _________________ '77 Yellow 924 |

On later models there is an in-tank pump, pick up and filter.
This can be unbolted, removed and cleaned and can be clogged if left for a while.
On early models I dont know how it is set up.
You can inspect inside the tank by removing (carefully) the level sender. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Ozzie - I believe mine is an early model, but I will check that out asap.
I have a sneaking suspicion that it could be the warm up regulator... I wanna check that out next, any good testing of the warm up regulator.
Chewtoy and anyone else - sorry for not updating the progress on my ride, but my daily driver is down, it's overcharging, replaced battery and alternator (voltage regulator is in the alternator) and it's still overcharging. I'm not sure whats going on, im gonna see if i can find someone to have it error code checked .
Thanks. _________________ 77 924, It Drives ! |

figures.
Then I guess you would need to check the flow through it before applying 12V and then after. _________________ 1982 924

lol on the Startrek ref.
I looked at my gas tank today, there are 5 small bolts in an O shape at the bottom of the tank, would that mean there's something in there? Am I able to undo those and pull a pump out? Things don't look rusty under there but it doesn't look very clean either, would I be up against replacing much if I tried to open that up?
I also took the fuel filter that was new about 6 months ago off today. A lot of red gas came out from it, so I need to order up a new filter, that should arrive in a week or so... The local part store has a filter listed for my car but the fittings are wrong and I've had a heck of a time trying to find fittings. Rockauto.com sells a filter with fittings on it that seems to work, just annoying having to have a filter shipped each time I want to replace...
So yeah - red gas in the filter, could this be indicative of my car not driving more than 20 seconds? _________________ 77 924, It Drives ! |

Have you drained the fuel tank since you've bought it? What's the history? Has it been sitting for awhile?
These cars are known to have rust accumulation in the fuel tank, flaking off, clogging screens, pumps, fuel lines and filters, eventually mucking up the entire CIS system. Any new fuel parts you've put on may be suspect if you haven't had the tank drained and checked for interior rust or particles entering the fuel system. The red looking gas may be indicative of old fuel that's starting to turn to varnish or even rust particles getting into the system. CIS hates dirt.
If you decide to pull the tank and have it boiled and a liner put in, this is a good time to replace all the evaporation hoses on the top of the tank, which are usually the source of fumes getting into the cabin.
Of course, all rubber hoses, boots, etc under the hood should be closely inspected and/or replaced to eliminate vacuum leaks. A massive vacuum leak will rob power, upsetting the delicate fuel/air ratio. Check the two rubber boots running from the fuel distributor to the intake manifold for cracking around the edges where the clamp is. Repeated removal and installation of these two boots will cause minute cracks that won't seal, especially if these are the original boots. Replacement is a good option. Also check the plastic connecting tube for these boots. Sometimes the boot clamps get overtightened and cracks the plastic neck. (EDIT: Also, if the car has been backfiring occasionally, these boots will take the brunt of that force.)
Another suspect can be the injector seals and rubber o-rings the injectors sit into. Did your new injectors come with new o-rings? There should be a removalable seat the o-rings sit into made from nylon (?) that cracks and lets air leak by. Check the Haynes.
Approach it systematically. Start with the fuel tank and work towards the engine. When you remove the in tank pump, you'll find the answer to the question whether or not the tank is causing the problems. If not, work forward, using the Haynes testing procedures for fuel flow and amount of delivery.
Testing gauges are inexpensive through J.C. Whitney. Around $65 or so, maybe a touch more now, but it's the only way to diagnose fuel issues reliably. You'll spend twice that on a new WUR that may or may not solve the problem.
If you're handy and creative and have a good hardware store nearby, you might be able to assemble the pieces to make your own gauge set but keep in mind you're looking at around 100 psi of pressure so buy parts accordingly. The hoses would be especially important since you don't want one blowing off while testing. You might be able to have them made up at a hydraulic shop, if available.
Good luck. Keep us posted. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Not familiar with the tank on a 77. What would the bolts be? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

* Update *
Thank you all.
After taking a couple pounds of rust and crap out of the gas tank and fuel lines, flushing lines and what not, I can drive her as fast as I can on local streets ... A much faster car then I was expecting!
The engine is popping back a lot therefore I am now working on timing, seem to be having an issue setting it... suppose to be +10 I read but can't seem to find that mark. I see a "+", that's all I've found thus far...
