I've already taken out my back seats and it is just ugly red metal back there,

In my 951 parts car, the PO took a piece of 1/4" plywood and made a hinge along the straight edge at the top of the seats. The plywood sheet covers the seat wells and can be easily covered with normal automotive carpet. He hid his stereo amp under, and it doesn't look too bad.
I might try it on my car. I'll try to get some pics next time...

I took my seat base to an auto upholstery shop and had them cover it in trunk liner the same colour as the carpet I installed:

so is that the actual seat bottom just covered in carpet?
i was thinking of having someone making a mold of the bottom of the seats on the backside of the carpet and then just flipping it over.
but that looks pretty clean, how did you install the seats back in? _________________ 1987 924S - MO30 30/19 - Yellows all around |

Yes, covered in what upholstery places call "trunk liner", carpet won't adhere or bend as nicely.

Just spray some 3M upholstery adhesive where the seat base goes, then press it in place. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

you think i could just put the trunk liner straight in there with the 3m adhesive with no seat bottom? _________________ 1987 924S - MO30 30/19 - Yellows all around |

That is actually much harder as there are lots of bumps and crevices in the sheet metal that makes up the seat area. You'd need to smooth out those areas by filling them with some foam to make it easier for the material to lie somewhat smoothly and adhere. Luckily, Porsche made some foam in the exact shape you need, its called the rear seat base. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Porsche used to offer these rear seat delete things in early 911s, I think. This one is a knock-off.
