Always listen to old mechanics. (If he has never seen this before, run away.)

Well then follow his advice!

But I would have the leak fixed, worse case is probably a used pump and a timing belt.

Are you going to use vegetable oil instead of diesel?

So are you going to install a separate tank and a fuel line heater?

TO BE truthful i did think about converting it to bio,but only as a thought,i didnt really think it would be easy or the car worth it. but a chip burner would be fun....and after the deisls finished with that body ill convert it to the 24....NOT!!!

Just how much MPG are you looking for?

The 95 VW Golf GL that I bought two months ago for $100 is averaging over 32MPG, and that's with what I suspect is one or two leaking injectors.

I have seen a fair number of MKIII (93-99) Golfs and Jettas for sale on vwvortex.com (VW Fan Site like 924.org) selling for $500-$1000. You gotta watch out for the Scammers in the Parts for Sale Classifieds (we've seen that before), and the clowns that want outrageous money for wrecks, but there's lots of stuff to see, and good information on there.
