|
|
I'm replacing the fuel pump and filter in my car, but here's the tricky thing, the fuse that should be the fuel pump... isn't.
Everything I've seen says it's fuse #2 on the smaller fuseboard, so I take it out and... bzzzzz... fuel pump's on, car runs fine at length--gave up when the radiator fans kicked on. When I take out the DME, car won't start, but I can hear (and feel) that the the fuel pump is still churning.
So, in short, what the hell?
(Additionally, I saw that fuse 3 is out, which should be the radiator fans... the fans that run. Two years after I've bought the car and I'm still being confounded by the PO.)
PS - Another mystery! Fuse 8 is blown but the power windows work fine! _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

Are you sure you have the correct fuse block? - there is a primary (15 fuses) and an auxillary fuse panel (9 fuses)
DME should not affect the fuel pump operation - it just controls the injectors, I believe.
I think you might have the relay numbers and fuse numbers confused.
Aux. Fuse#3 is the heater blower.
Aux. Fuse #5 and #6 are the fans at the front of the engine.
Aux. Fuse #8 is the power windows
You might want to pull the Aux fuse panel to see if it was bypassed by the PO.

I was working on the aux. fuse box. Problem now is that I think when I took out the fuse for the power windows the relay died. How the hell do I jump this to close my windows before it rains? _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

Thanks, but help me out as I'm really bad with electrics. How do I jump it? _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

You just need to find a 12V+ source (the + post of the battery is easy to find), then run a wire however you can between the two. Ideally, an approx. 16 gauge or thicker wire with a clamp at one end and a male 1/4" spade connector on the other - this would clamp to the battery + at one end and plug right into the re/bl wire at the other end through the 87 post with the relay removed. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. No dice, jumped it and got no response. Looks like my car's wearing trashbags to work tomorrow.
Edit: I'm getting the feeling I may have dislodged a wire in the back, what are the odds of this? _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

Interesting.
Maybe the problem is with the grounding then.
Well, you could also power the motors directly from wires at the switches.
Look at the wiring diagram again. Apply 12V+ to the bl/bk wire at switch post "A" and ground to the bl wire at switch post "B". If this moves the window in the direction you want it to go, then good - otherwise reverse polarity (12v+ to the post "B" blue wire, and ground to post "A"'s blue/black wire).
Do this at the switch for the drivers' window that's at the drivers' side, and at the switch for the passengers' window that's at the passengers' side (leave the switch for the passengers' window that's at the drivers' side alone). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. I had to run a jumper wire from the battery to the switches on the driver's side door to get the windows down. I think I need to check the relay.
I notice the trunk light is connected to the relay - I cut the light out of the circuit the other day - would this affect the window circuit?
