|

Finally starting to stitch together another motor after comprehensively destroying the original some years ago at an Historic race meeting ( third lap of practice - motor overhauled by supposedly reputable race shop ). Found a great used (almost) short motor on EvilBay and after hot-tanking is still standard tolerances and ready to go. Given that my last disaster was caused by a rod bolt letting go, I am loathe to use the ones that came with this block however there are no new ones available from Porsche (according to Porsche Australia) and ARP does not service the 924.
Apart from x-raying and putting on new nuts (which I have) does the board have any suggestions, or does anyone have a new set spare?
Cheers Peter |

ARP should have something, it just isn't listed in their catalog. You may need to contact them directly with the specs of your existing bolts. _________________ Stefan

I asked Porsche about that, they said that they could be reused according to their papers. But you never know.. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

I looked intothis long and hard, and it eems no one makes uprated rod bolts for these engines. however, it may be possible to remove on and find a close match with an existing ARP item, but this may mean you end up using an imperial bolt as oposed to the metric items. just because no one list it specifically for the 924 doesn't mean there are no alternatives. Reseach on this i think. I opted to play safe and has forged steel rods made which came with ARP fastners. may be expensive, but as you have seen the damage a single faulty bolt can cause, i think he costs justify themselves.
If anyone is looking for top quality rods, Arrow Precision Engineering in the UK made mine, and have the design on record. The wrist pin on mine however is a more conventional size to suit my Woosner pistons. But they can make a direct replacement if you intend on using the Porsche Mahle pistons

| Thanks for your input guys. I have emailed ARP directly for their thoughts on some possible replacement either in metric or sae, with the thought of drilling out the rod to enable fitment, but as yet have no reply. Will keep you posted. Cheers Pete |
