| Evening all, finally got the 924 up and running after its head gasket/top end rebuild, but have a couple of questions for you knowledgeable people. Since owning (but never driven) my 924 it has never had a working temp gauge, can anyone tell me what colour the wire the temp sensor is? Also after getting it running i had to move the dizzy round by about an inch from its original position, is this reasonable??????????????? |

The temp gauge sender is at the rear of the cylinder head, and the wire should be bl/ye (blue and yellow).
Wiring diagrams in the back of the Haynes manual contain this type of info. Of course being from England where the Haynes manuals were first produced, you can't get a copy of one, right?
On the dizzy - Yes it's reasonable, if it was off by about an inch before you started (it, and many stranger things are possible...).
Put your cars' year and model in your signature area at bottom - accessible through the profile function.
It wasn't needed for this one, but inevitably will be in the future and assuming you're human, you'll otherwise forget to mention it at times when it's needed. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Dizzy should have a thick shielded green wire running to the plug half way up. the temp sender is hidden below that attached to a casting. It has a little mushroom shaped head that takes a spade connector. Its hard to see with the dizzy in place and even harder to get to... _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Thanks rich, i know where it is but im struggling to find the wire which should connect to it. Does your dizzy have a blue/white wire connected to the spade terminal on the side? Can you confirm the colour of your temp sensor wire next time you are passing, if possible? Many thanks _________________ 1985 924 n/a in guards red |

Nope, I don't have a diizzy any more and I have just sold them on e-bay... and I'm pretty sure I replaced the temp sender wire.. But I'll check later on. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

I'm pretty sure you two gents would have had different distributors anyway. The earlier one with inductive pickup and the later a Hall sender, with the changeover in 1981. -So wiring and its' colors likely changed as well. Can't guarantee all wiring and its' colors are the 100% the same between UK and USA either - there're reasons they printed different versions of the Haynes for different markets.
I'd suggest getting familiar with how to read the wiring diagrams. It's not difficult with a few clues, as given here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=24683
Distributor and other ignition system wiring appears on the first page of the diagrams for each model. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
