OK, new guy here again.
I am just so excited that I just had to jump in and let everyone know the status of my new project.
So here's a quick recap:
It started as a 78 or 79 924 in pretty good shape and it now runs nice ( it has been sitting at my father-in-laws place for 7 years).
I picked it up and went through the entire car replacing small stuff like the battery and light bulb's, fuses, relays and repairing wires. Then I moved on to larger items like replacing blower fans, inspecting and replacing fuel lines, belts hoses and.... well you get the picture.
The engine and stuff runs real nice now and I still have not registered the car for the road since winter is coming up soon and I have to replace the windshield and tires. So I figured I will replace the tires at the same time as I buy my cool rims.

I then was searching for some fiberglass body kits and found an absolutely awesome 924 with a wide body kit from Infinite fiber works. I found this car in a PDF I downloaded from the site. For those of you interested here is the link http://www.allporscheracing.com/Kit%20Car%20Magazine.pdf and take a look at the yellow 78' 924. So I began searching for some parts and come across a fiberglass 944 turbo bumper and tons of spare engine and interior parts for $50 so I could not pass it up!

I then began the first of many modifications to the exterior and the first real big step into this project.
I repaired the fiberglass 944 Turbo bumper that had some minor damage and pulled the stock 924 front bumper. I then was faced with the choice of replacing my 924 fenders with those from a 944 or keep my fender that are in good shape and modify my front end to build a 924 that has a unique look and style.
I decided to keep my fenders and I fabricated some custom mounts for the 944 Turbo bumper and began to cut my fenders and mold the fenders and front end into my new fiberglass front end.
It took me about a week to finish and I am pleased with the end result.

So moving on to step 2.
I began sanding the dull silver and repairing any small dents and removing any rust I found along the way. I started at the front with the new bumper and the following few weeks I moved to the back.
I continued to refer to the picture of that yellow 78 924 in the IFC Wide body PDF for inspiration and ideas. here is the PDF link again. http://www.allporscheracing.com/Kit%20Car%20Magazine.pdf

I found a great little shop in downtown Salt Lake City that has a ton of Porsche stuff and has several 944's they offered to sell me for donor cars. I was able to talk them out of the rear spoiler for $50 so I mounted that up and I am well on my way to getting my boring old 924 into something that just might turn a few heads.

So I now have the entire car sanded and the rust and small dings and dents fixed and the whole thing is sitting with a coat of primer on it.
Now the real exciting news! !! ! Instead of looking for a storage garage to put my 924 into for the winter, I Dad got a hold of an old friend of his who just happens to own an auto body shop and has offered to store my car there for the winter and to do work on it and have it all ready for me to register and hit the streets this spring!
My Dad has offered to help me with my project so I will have a Porsche of my own this summer.
My Dad has wanted a Porsche his whole life and he finally broke down and ordered himself a Cayman S and will be picking it up in December.
We have chosen this years color options to apply to my 924.
I am going with the Midnight blue metallic paint and we decided on redoing the seats and interior with this years light Grey leather with black cloth.
And the best news is: The auto body shop is going to do all the work. They will be going over the body and fix whatever I missed and making it perfect. And they also will do the upholstery and interior work as well. When all that is done they will put my new windshield in and all I have to do is pick up my cool new rims and tires and get it registered.
I does not get any better or easier than that!
I am so excited because I am dropping the car of on the Tuesday right before Thanksgiving! OOOOOHHHH this is going to be the LONGEST winter of my life! But I can NOT WAIT!!

SO thats the progress of my project and if I can figure out how to get pictures up I would like to get some of your input on my 924/944 hybrid front end.

Thanks for reading and I will keep you up to date as I get pictures and stuff.

Ok I figured it out.
First pic.. The ever familiar before picture

And now after the new 944 Turbo bumper

And one more with the spoiler and before the rest of the car was all sanded and primed.

Enjoy, and I will post more as more work is done.
