Well, yet again, I have another problem with my lovely 931.
Earlier last week, I was driving along, just fine, and someone veered out in front of me. I had to veer around him and basically floor it to avoid hitting him. Right after that little maneuver, I had to pull over because my RPMs were stuck at around 4000. The throttle didn't appear stuck, nor the sensor plate, but a little bit of wiggling of all of the above, RPMs lowered enough for the turbo to stop spinning.
All seemed fine. Then the next day, I experienced a little bit of bucking/stuttering. I thought perhaps, I had kicked the DITC 12-pin plug when i floored it before (because it's exposed, and not even using the original connector.) I tightened up the connectors, and it seemed to work fine.
The day after that, I got in, and drove away, just fine. About 1/2 way to where I was going and it started jerking like crazy, bucking, and backfiring out the exhaust, and it even shut itself down and not holding idle. Floppy tach and everything too.
Is there something else that would cause this? I thought it might be that acceleration enrichment controller again, but the backfire makes me think it's an ignition timing issue. Firing too late and all. Otherwise, I assume I'm going to need to test with a known good DITC box... or worse case, try and convert to a more conventional ignition timing system.
And if I do have to test it, is there anyone around Boston who has one I can test with? And then perhaps, buy? _________________ 1981 924 Turbo (931) |

Bet you a beer its not the unit itself. From your description it sounds like poor and intermittent connections, especially with the fluctuating tacho.

Not exactly rocket science.

that was of course the first thing i tried. i replaced the connections myself fairly recently, and they are all clean and tight, and in fact had been working very well for the last month.
although, it won't hurt to quadruple-check. _________________ 1981 924 Turbo (931) |
