Pulled everything apart yesterday and soldered LED's to original sockets together with resistors.
Some crappy pics (taking photos in the dark is not for me )
With the ignition on, pics become worse :
Here's ashtray. I was afraid that it won't illuminate good enough due to LEDs straight pattern but it did:
Here's a tough one. I caought "Porsche" script on startup of the Porsche CDR-22 head unit:

did you get your leds from the same place that 924racer got his? It was called Superbright Leds. They look great though. _________________ Michael

No, doesn't look like the same place. Nice results, though!
I still have to deal with my combo gauge... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Very nice LED conversion. Do you have any pictures of the actual process, where did you solder everything? Maybe I'll take my gauges out this winter and work on this. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Looks super!
I thought of it a while ago, just to be sure I don't have to change 'bulbs' once in a while and get the energy consumption down.
Same with the rear lights btw.
Anyway, you can buy led's which are feeded on 12V directly... seperate resistors are just as easy and way cheaper so I'd do the same thing
Aren't the led's too bright (in your opinion)? It's annoying when some lights are distracting whilst driving...hard to say when I see the pics, you could judge it better I guess.
Looks nice! _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

Well I drove two times in darkness and for few hours and it wasn't too bright. Photo makes it a bit wrong.
One of the best mods I've done to interior of the car (together with 944 dash vent grilles and black leather seats)
EDIT: I didn't take any photos of the process as it's really too simple to do it wrong. Just take the LED, cut one leg (I chose negative) and solder resistor. Then tape the resistor and put it to the socket so legs protrude through it. Then just solder them to contacts. Just remember the polarity of the LED (longer leg is positive). _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

I did mine today- still have the oil press and volts to do but a bit more tricky as they are soldered in.
I took pics of the two types so far so I'll upload them soon. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

For the lights in the tacho-
remove light bulb and pull out the contacts.
Cut off the terminals for the bulb but leave the earth tongue.
Cut the short wire on the led and cut short one end of the resistor, solder together. I stripped some insulation off some wire for the +ve side of the led.
Refit the terminals in the holder, fit in the led and solder to connections.
The insulated wire is the +ve.
The reason I insulate the +ve?
If it shorts it will blow the fuse and you will lose all your dash lights.
If the -ve shorts you will blow the LED only. (my theory) _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

what resistance did you both use? How much ohm?
I've calculated it in the old days for my moped, got the right resistors, and still blew my led's
A VW golf mk2 from 1989 has also a led dash, you only see led's in the dash for turn signals and stuff... whole dash works on 4,3 volts or something like that. But that doesn't matter
This will be a thing for the future when my engine is running right. or as soon as a bulb blows in my dash. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

They came with the LED's but think they are 570ohms. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
