Hi guys,

The central locking in my car has given up the ghost. I can't find much info in my Haynes on it, and can't see any blown fuses in either panel under the glovebox.

I can lock/unlock the doors manually - so it would appear to be electrical in nature(?) Anyone play with the central locking mech before?

Cheers,
Gavin.

i didn't realise any of these cars has central locking? is it factory?

i recently added aftermarket remote central locking to mine for less than $100.

you sure its not just a flat battery in the remote?

It's not operated by remote - it's operated when I open/close the drivers door with the key. I just assumed it was factory... hmm...

no factory power locks that ive seen in the manuals, never on a 24...

if they work with a key, then youve got a micro switch in the locking gizmo.. could be electrical or vacuum operated (audi style) ..

just pull off the door panels and have a look. Drivers door should have a little actuator in the door, and some wires running to a brain somewhere. more wires will then run from the brain to the passenger door. Just make sure all the wires are connected, and that the actuators are still connected to the lock buttons.

apart from that, i'm not much help.

cheers

STOP!
Dont pull the door panel yet unless its still off or you enjoy doing it.
Steeny and 924guy are right about no factory unit, so you must have an aftermarket one fitted. Your drivers door will have a master, with 4 wires. 2 for the switch and 2 for the motor. The passenger door should have only 2 wires for the motor, and as steeny said will connect to a "box" somewhere, and also to a power source, hopefully through a fuse.

Suggest first getting your head under the dash (easier to pull the door panel hey ) and looking for the wires that come from the door. Probably fed up from behind the kick panels then under the dash or glovebox. Follow them to the control unit and hopefully an inline fuse (in the red wire?) Some units will also have fuses on the motor lines. Play it as you go Gav, find the unit, check fuse and if it is getting power etc. See if you can check the switch and motor continuity at any plugs. Did it work OK after you got the door panel back on? Maybe you disturbed something doing that or the steering wheel etc.

Good luck

Roger

It's weird - I don't recall seeing anything that looked aftermarket when I had the cards off, or even when I removed the entire external handle for painting months back. But I wasn't exactly looking.

Will have a poke around on the weekend to see what the deal is...

Cheers,

There was no central-locking system standard on the the 924,
but,
it was available for the 944.Maybe the P/O switched the doors for some reason.....
