Im sure Im not the only one here with the typical worn out shifter, where the cross pin in the shifter lever begins to get a tapered look to it, and the shifter barely catches the 5/R gate. You could order a new shifter lever for 50 bucks, or, you could go to the hardware store and get a 10MMX60MM bolt, locktite, and 2 nuts, and fix the one you have.

1. remove the shift lever from the car

2. Hacksaw, or grind the pin off flush with the lever

3. Using a drill bit one size larger then the bolt, centerpunch, and drill through the lever where the pin was welded on.

4. Grind off the weld on the backside till it is flush

5. Pass the bolt through the shifter bar, then put locktite on the nut, and thread the nut on it.

6. reinstall the shifter lever in the car.

7. pass the bolt through the hole, locktite the second nut, and lock the bolt tightly to the shift lever. It will take a bit of adjustment to get it just right where it fits the bar snugly, but not too tight.

When I finished this, I had 30 minutes into it, and my shifter stands at attention now, rather then flopping all over the place. I even managed to do it for free, since I had the bolt and nuts laying around.
