Anyone ever replace their turbo AND EM without removing the cylinder head? Can it be done?

Impressive, that's gotta be some sort of record. Or is it that much easier on a 932? Still, that's quick.

been there done that, couple of times.. it can definitely be done, though i think its probably easier to pull the whole engine. might not be faster, but with it out, you can get to all the bolts much easier, and do a better job of getting more accurate torque values and such when putting it back together. its also a good option if you want to give the whole thing a once over, and replace the drain lines and other stuff thats hard to get from the top or the bottom..

Yeah, I hear ya and I'd really like to do it. No doubt that is the best way. Unfortunately garage space is at a premium right now.

It is a frustrating experience. The first time I struggled bigtime - broke fingernails, plenty of skin off the back of my hands etc. The next time was a bit easier and by the fourth time I had a strategy for every nut.

A few of them required two universal joints and extensions on the ratchet. I'm sure torque values go out the window with so many transmission pieces in the way so I just do everything up "tight".

When I bought this car, the turbo had been removed. I ended up putting another turbo back on w/o removing the head. It can be done. THe hardest part is getting the oil line to stop leaking at the top.
