|
|
Hello all,
I am interested in any information there is available about putting an Audi 5-cylinder 20v into a 944. Reason is that I have a 944 with a blown engine and a 20v Audi engine laying around, see www.944-20v.nl
What I did already find in the archives is someone that put a 10v engine into his 924 and he advised using a 924 turbo bellhousing.
Also, there is a video on YouTube that shows a 924 with a 20vt engine in it. I've tried contacting the guy but so far no response.
Cheers,
Justin |

I'm doing the same in my 924.. I tend to bust through projects like this very quickly, so I imagine I'll have it running by Spring. _________________ Brian near Seattle, WA

Check out this page:
http://www.20v.org/specs.htm
Not only does it list the horsepower and torque specs, it has a dyno plot.. Seems that it makes more torque at 1,000rpm than the 924's stock engine EVER makes.. haha.. _________________ Brian near Seattle, WA

yea...well its normal for this engine to be more powerfull than the 924 unit...its a 2.3 Liter 4 valves per cyl engine with 10:1 compresion ratio and modern injection and ignition.
And you should look again...the 924 makes about 170Nm @3500 of torque and that engine about 210 @4500. The 924 makes 125 Hp @ 5800 that engine makes 164hp @ 6000. So the difference is about 30 units in both power and torque. I dont find the 20V that impressive..the car is only slightly faster than the 924 and thats mainly because its 4x4. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

30 units? Looks like 40 to me.. And those are the factory numbers for a 20v engine. I'll be running a bigger exhaust system, coil on plug ignition, and Megasquirt which will give me full control over the timing and fueling. I'd imagine I can get a bit more performance out of it than the emissions centric factory computer got.
I didn't think this kind of swap would start a holy war.. It's a Porsche that came with an Audi engine. I'm swapping a more modern Audi engine into it's place. Not even that much more modern, 7 years newer for my particular car.. _________________ Brian near Seattle, WA

I think the 10v was 2.2, the 20v seems to be 2.3L.. _________________ Brian near Seattle, WA

Thinking about it, The 20v is so much better than even a 944 motor its ridiculous. In non turbo form it is as good as a S2. I can walk away from 951's with minimal effort in my 20vT 924.
This is the engine they should have used from day one. anyone who doesnt agree has never driven one _________________ A person is smart. People are stupid |

Didn't you once say you would post pics of this setup once it was built? _________________ Toofah King Bad

well if you would run a bigger exhaust and larger valves and all that shit on the 924 engine the 30-40 units would stay even if you upgrade the audi engine.
Its not a 2.2 its a 2.3 the 2.2 came with a turbocharger and 230 HP, i have a friend who has one. I wont say that the 20V engine is not a great one...it was developed and made by porsche after all. On my friend's engine(2.2L T 20v) there is written PORSCHE....the 20V T is one of the best engines even today...but thats the turbocharged one...the NA one seems preety comon...and i doubt that you can upp it from 164HP to 200 just with a bigger exhaust and a KN filter.
However good luck with the project...when you are done come meet me on the highway with my 924 engine and lets see what is what. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits
