I just changed to the early 944 coolant reservoir - it mounts out of the way, on the wheel well, but costs more than the 931 tank. A new 931 tank will run about $60-$65, while the 944 version's about $85-$90. - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=23007
Watch them o-rings - being bathed in fuel all day, they need to be made of a material that can withstand that.
Not so sure about the [Silverado] filter trick - the 931s' CIS system runs at about 90 psi. I'd be concerned about a wrong fuel filter possibly bursting.
Also, the flow direction through the filter on a US (LHD) 931 is front-to-back, which is "counter-intuitive". It's common to find the fuel filter installed backwards. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

on the Silverado filter outlett was listed on the filter. I am going to change out after I let it pick up any remaining crap from the tank. This car has been sitting scince 02 or at least that is when the tags ran out. I washed out as much out of the tank and lines that I could so that is why I didn't want to spend that much on a filter I know I will prob have to change out in a week or so. I will not use this as a driver until it is perfect then I will put the right one in. What do you think? Should I go ahead and get the orig filter or do you think this would be ok for a short time?
The O-rings I bought was A\C orings I thought they must be chemically resistant. Should I keep looking for another type? _________________ 1981 924 turbo |

The orings I purchased are a nitrile Buna N matrial . This material holds up well to gasoline.

You got me worried with the filter thing. Do you think it would be best so get the orig filter now or wait and flush out a little more? _________________ 1981 924 turbo |

Unless you're trying to clean out the tank also with this filter (if so, bad idea), I'd say those lines are cleared already. -Or if you want to flush them out some more, you could disconnect the fuel supply (larger line) to the fuel distributor, run it to a 5-6 gallon fuel can - that'll run a lot more fuel through faster and at lower pressure so you don't have to worry about popping the fuel filter. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. Dont quote me on this but I think AC oring are also Nitrile but a chloroprene blend of rubber that does not hold up as well in gas. As Rasta said, Special T has em , worth putting in something that wont break down and make a mess in the fuel system.

You guys hit the nail on the head about the oring. When I checked it the next day it dissolved. Got the correct one now and car is running great. This is my first turbo. Is it normal for the boost to kick in at about 3500 rpm? Is it normal for it to take a few seconds to idle down? And another problem I have seen is that the oil pressure gets low like almost nothing when it is at operating temp. I had 10w30w in and changed again to 20-50. Pressure better but light still flickers. I have read somewhere on another post I believe that there is a ball bering and spring somewere. Could cleaning this possibly help? _________________ 1981 924 turbo |
