So you say you want a p-car but the 924 is not powerful enough for you. Ok, why not save your money and buy a 928 it has a v8 in it and is a pretty fast car. Or if you want to go real fast buy a 930 and then drop the money you are paying for the conversion into upgrades. I have a feeling your not going to be happy with the conversion. Just my two cents.

Hi there Applebit,
I've currently got a '00 Firebird Formula LS1 with a 6-speed (it's for sale), so I'm somewhat familiar with the drivetrain you'll be using. The LS1 is a great engine no matter how you slice it, and I know you'll be blown away by the performance. Yeah, you're going to find the rear suspension to be a little unnerving compared to an IRS in mid-corner bumps, but as long as you've got big enough meat back there you probably won't have any problems with grip.
I'm curious about the engine setup you're getting. If you don't mind sharing the details I'd love to look over the build sheet. You should spend some time on LS1tech.com familiarizing yourself with the drivetrain and its quirks. I'd like to see what you're using parts-wise to get the 475hp, also. My car has a mild cam, some home porting on the heads, and a few bolt-ons, but is very driveable. You'll almost certainly get better gas mileage than a carbed 924.
I think if I were going to do this I'd probably try to find a 951 transaxle if nothing else but not to have to cut up the tunnel to fit a transmission, which I suspect will be pretty intrusive given the narrow width of the torque tube vs. the auto. The gearing of the 951 transaxle isn't half-bad for the application, either. As long as you don't use too sticky of a tire, the transaxle would probably hold up pretty well, too.
Either way, given the saga that you've been on with your 924, it's good to see things moving in a positive direction and I wish you all the best. _________________ Jon Furst |

How much is this going to cost all up??
Looks like your spending $5000+ on the engine alone...

Yeah, I know, but I was informed that the deadline was tough. I am honestly not worrying about it because I want it done right. They will deliver on that! These guys are professionals. Besides, their fabricator was very sick for a number of weeks so they are behind schedule.
Well, perhaps a little worried... more because I have a truck that needs a computer in it, and a saturn with a bad clutch.... and gonna pop the question soon.... _________________ Classic British Sports Car Restoration v6 + v8 Engine Conversion Swaps

Well, this is odd. . .Bit's avatar is gone, his 924 website is down, and the pics in this thread of his car at the hot rod shop are gone.
Wonder what's up? Hope tragedy didn't strike the dangermobile. . . _________________ Toofah King Bad
