I was looking for an oil filter relocator kit and found several but none specifically for our application. Jegs had quite a few reasonably priced options but the closest I found was audi or vw. Does anyone know if our car shares a filter size with any of these or do you know where I might be able to find a place that sells these either as a kit or parts to make the kit? I checked the search - it told more of people using the kit to help feed oil to the turbo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
B

Check out whats available on ebay. Remember seeing universal types there that looked like they had an O ring seal and supplied different size centre bolts. Not sure of size now, maybe 20mm or so and actually listed most porsche models and Hondas too IIRC.

Could just buy the correct transdapt adapter for the 924 block and run lines over to whatever for the oil filter location. The transdapt adapter is only like an inch tall as well.....

Not sure what the thread on the other end of the male/male nipple is that screws into the block. I see the adaptors need a longer one that goes through the aluminium piece and screws into the block instead of the original.

Why do you need to move the filter, B. Do you need the room for something more interesting...?

Right-hand drive cars have a right angle adapter so the the filter clears the steering column. I was amazed to find last oil change that Porsche used an imperial (i.e. non-metric) thread size. I thought this might only be on the adapter, but Smoothie's post confirms the same thread is used in the block...

Yes, it's imperial, and Racer Parts Wholesale (racerpartswholesale.com) sells rather inexpensive bits to accomplish this - that's where I got my parts, including a very good price on a very large oil cooler (8x11" - normally used for auto trannys).

Mike my reason for wanting to move the oil filter is to make it easier to get to and to move it away from the down pipe of the BAE kit that I am working on. I'm hoping this will be a little cooler for it and it may offer a minimal cooling affect for the oil. I'm also working on moving the alternator to the other side as well to keep it away from the heat and to provide more space for the turbo parts.

thanks Vaughan - I'll check racer parts wholesale - do they have a kit or all the parts? were they easy to work with?

Smoothie - thanks also for that size - it seems there are several kits that use that size if that is how the kit works. sorry I missed that on my search I checked filter relocation and I should have looked at filters as well

thanks everyone
B

No, they don't really sell a kit - you piece together what you need.

I bought a kit from JCWhitney. Their universal oil filter relocation kit. The trick here was not to use the rubber hose oil lines. As Vaughn found out racing years ago these rubber hoses will not last at all. You use the adapter plate that screws to the block and the filter adapter that accepts your oil filter. I located my filter just behind the radiator, in front of the alternator and attached to the frame. I then went to a hydraulic hose shop and had two, 36inch hoses with 90degree swivel ends made. (yes take your filter adapter with you so they can get matching thread sizes for the swivel ends) These hoses will take 1000 degrees of heat and about 2000 pounds of pressure. Yes I know thats overkill but this won't increase the cost. I payed 62 dollars for these hoses, (both together). For the record I had them doplicate the "Y" hose that attaches to the fuel accumulators at the same time for even less money. The origional hose was plugged at its narrowest point. Tremendous difference!!! The filter relocation gave me one more QT. oil capacity, and a serious drop in oil temp. Both these changes have made a marked difference in the the way my car ran, and these changes are cheap and easy to do. A big bang for the buck.

what about using the 931 oil housing to change the angle and it will give you a line to run an oil cooler.
you can do that right? a 931 oil filter housing on a 924

I talked to this seller a while ago. He can piece anything together you may need. His complete kits look good for the money.I ran into other repairs so I did not personally order mine- yet.

Thanks everyone
I found a universal kit at summit racing that comes with everything except the filter for about $34. The hoses are not steel braided - but it's plenty to get things started and set up - I figure that I can change those later. I am planning on running the lines up to the front, across and behind the radiator to the frame rail under the air box and horn area. does that sound like an ok area? it looked safe and would pass by the fan - maybe some extra cooling affect?
Thanks again for all of your help!

That's a lot like the routing I'm using.
