hey people im having trouble figuring out the order in which the spark plug leads go onto the distributor. It has no numbering to say what lead goes to what on the distributor. Hope that makes sense. Any help appreciated.

The firing order is 1-3-4-2 - you should find that cast into the top of the valve cover for future reference.
If the distributor is installed as it was from the factory*, the wire for #1 goes on the dist cap post that's toward the left-rear (the front passenger seat for RHD cars (intake side of the engine)), #3 is the front-left post, #4 is front-right (exhaust side of the engine), #2 is rear-right (toward your drivers' seat, assuming RHD).

*- If the distributor is installed as it was from the factory, with the tdc mark that's between two teeth on the rear of the cam sprocket lined-up with the pointer on the valve cover, the dist rotor should be pointing toward the rear-left (toward the post for wire #1).

Put your year and model in your profile so it appears at the bottom of your posts.

They ought to put that info on the motor somewhere. And not just a sticker, something more permanent, like engraving or something.

The firing order for a four cylinder car, 1-3-4-2, was passed to Moses on a tablet of stone!

Hello,

there is a marked (Engraved) line on the metall part of the distributor.Thats where your rotor should point at when the first cyl. is on OT or english TDC.All the other lines are installed counterclockwise ,following the firing order.

Yes, if you're under the car and looking up while attaching the wires to the cap (not recommended).
Otherwise, 1-3-4-2 clockwise if working from above the engine and looking down.

Maybe, the only car I have run across that has a dissy running CCW was a Gemini with an Isuzu motor.
Had me stumped for days why it was missing.

I've got a feeling my old Triumph GT6's dizzy ran anticlockwise.

And, you're right, Ozzie, it makes things really confusing!
